Guess that’s how bad my manual was. I immediately called another school and got in. When they registered me for the exam I tried to get them to reschedule. Told them I didn’t feel ready, I needed to perfect it 1st. They said no I m ready & no I didn’t need to to be perfect. Needless to say I passed 🎉effortlessly . That’s a great feeling. Hardest part for me of the CDL test. My advice is when your practicing this before the actual test, try to find a place market you line up with and use that as the point to start turning. So find one point to start turning the trailer in, and then a second point to counter steer the trailer into the box. Once your in the box it's easy from there.

Have done this several times over the last almost 30 years of driving. Most of the time you don't need it but you never know. Especially with parking becoming a premium nowadays. One time as a Household Goods Mover, had to parallel park in front of the customer's house in between 2 cars with a light pole on the curbside of the trailer. The customer said if I didn't see it I wouldn't believe it! Had to have a spotter behind the trailer because could not see the car behind me

Just had to do this maneuver on my CDL test a few days ago.. I didn't get it perfect, I got too "deep" in the box and my rear tractor tires went slightly over the boundary line. I always made the same mistake in class too.. make sure you don't wait too late to make your counter steer to avoid that mistake! Although I was really nervous, especially on the road portion, I passed! My examiner told me I did slightly better than average on my test in general. I'll take that! Lol. Don't beat yourself up too much for hitting a cone.. you don't have to get everything perfect to pass the test!

I'm doing the new 2024 modernized skills test. Reverse, offset, backing to the right with a 53 foot trailer And it has been very difficult for us students at the school I attend to get this maneuver done correctly and I'm wondering if I can use the same formula That you used on this blind side parallel parking exercise, because it seems very similar? And can I use the 3 seconds that you count when turning left? And then stir, right to get my tractor and trailer straight at the correct angle? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. You have great content on your videos. Very easy to understand thanks again?
@MooneyCDLTraining6 ай бұрын
Yes I think offset and parallel setups will work on this newer modernized skills test. It seems to me the exercise you're referring to is the offset, parallel and ally dock all rolled into one exercise. In the video the trailer I'm using is a 48'. If you have a 53' you may want to adjust your count. So the 3 sec count would be a good starting point. If you find you are over shooting the lane try 2.5 or 2 sec count. If you are under shooting then bump up your second count. Good luck!

I went from never had even driven a stick shift car--to being able to play out manual double clutching Eaton-Fuller truck trainies like a Stradivarius violin. However, my parallel parking sucked for weeks in school, but after studying how trucks move with my die cast 1/50 scale semi-truck and trailer on my kitchen table, I was able to put those visualization into action--which at last made me an expert at parallel parking 53' foot trailers in just 2.5 minutes, where it had been taking me 15-minutes! Isn't there a reference point? Instead of counting 3 seconds it feels like your winging it and hoping for the best.
@cesaravila79475 жыл бұрын
Yes! I was taught with either conventional or unconventional parallel parking all of your reference points are on the outside. A-line DOT bumper with furthest cone. Turn steering wheel away from target then reverse until you see 3/4 of your landing gear then STOP(this is the ONLY reference point that will be on the INSIDE). Counter steer until trailer and tractor are straight; your reference point at this point is the cone on the OUTSIDE to the REAR which you should have a 6 to 9 foot gap from the rear outside of the trailer if you didn’t overshoot or undershoot the 3/4 of the landing gear. Then proceed backwards until your fifth axle wheel on the OUTSIDE is on the boundary line then STOP. Then turn steering wheel TOWARDS your target and proceed backwards and watch for your 3rd axle wheel to come within 5 inches of the OUTSIDE boundary line then STOP! Lastly, counter steer and back the tractor into the space and then it should slide right Into place.

yea, i was also taught the whole reference point thing too which made it impossible for me to do properly.. this makes it 10x easier. just look in your mirror and pretend like you are looking at ur reference point (note: i couldnt understand it the way my instructor taught me so i came here, this makes sense & i will try it tomorrow)

Did this for the first time today in school. Took me 5 or 6 tries before I realized what I was doing wrong. Just do what this guy did on the video and you won't need any pull-ups. I try and not use any.

I really like your videos well edited and put together ive been driving now for almost 3 years but i was wondering of sometime you could do a blindside 45° backin video?

1:00-1:03, the steering wheel is turned left but the steer tire turned to the right. Why is that?? At this moment, steer tires should turn right so the trailer goes left.

New drivers cannot use this method our reaction time isn't that quick, better to use reference points and you're two get outs

Just a heads up- At :59 it says turn clockwise (which is reflected in the animation)…but the guy in top left is shown turning counter clockwise. Don’t let that slip you up.

In over 20 years of trucking, I’ve never had to blindside parallel park. There is almost ALWAYS a place to park where you are not risking damage or injury.

Definitely the hardest part for me I’ve failed the parallel park 4 times already.

You have to anticipate what the trailer is going to do and start reacting before it happens. If you wait until it happens you're to late.

for people who need a marker to know when to stop turning look at the first bar of your landing gear until your truck is turned about 60% and that should help

Looks more like Steer wheel 2 times counter clockwise, 2 clockwise, 1 counter clockwise, 1 clockwise, and 2 counter clockwise.

Excellently done, but.... Where in the world would you ever use this? Been driving 21 years and don't think I've ever had to parallel park a semi.

You don’t have to hold the steering wheel against the stops take it easy on your equipment

My favorite maneuver! Although when it’s late at night and you’re just finishing your day….. I don’t care how many years you got under your belt you’re going to cuss and berate your trailer for the multiple number of retry’s you’ll have to do to parallel park your truck before calling it a day 🤣

Don't count to three, not all units going to idle at the same RPM and roll at the same speed watch your trailer and know when to start turning your steering to straighten out the tractor with the trailer. All this info about counting to three or turning left to go right and turning right to go left is rubbish. Learn how the thing works and understand the relationship between the two stop watching the end/back of the trailer and focus on the entire length. If you want to know how to operate a thing you have to first learn how it works.

@ricardonelson8263 You’re absolutely right! The best thing you can do is to watch the trailers reaction so you can make corrections as needed. No two parking spots will ever be the same, or docks so in the real world it’s impossible to use the “procedure” that most driving schools will teach you. You have to know your truck, pay attentions to the trailer, and make corrections as needed. Don’t overthink it. Personally, I never pay attention to which way I’m turning the steering wheel because I’m paying attention to what the truck and trailer are doing and turning the wheel as necessary. When you start thinking about clockwise vs counterclockwise, counting to 3, or which way turns the trailer left or right in a stressful situation such as backing into a door across a 4 lane highway you will create so much stress you won’t be able to think straight. The best thing you can do is practice backing as much as possible in an open parking lot and just get used to watching your trailer (especially the tandems), and where they track without looking at the steering wheel or even thinking about which way you’re turning it. Then, it will eventually become natural muscle memory. This applies to any backing situation, and not just parallel parking. Also, in the real world you will have varying load weights that will affect how the trailer reacts. Plus, the weight of the load will also determine where your trailer tandems are. With a heavier load the tandems will typically need to be further back to distribute the weight, which shortens the trailer tail swing but makes the trailer track further from the tractor’s path. I know the goal is to pass the test, but to become a good professional driver you will need to master backing up in every scenario. I wish everyone the best!

When do you start turning at the start of the break, when you have the axles all the way in the back of the trailer? My school has a truck with axles all the way in the back
