I put a catch can on my 2000 e46. I used the existing vacuum source from the intake that went to the ccv. I also used a pcv valve between the intake and the catch can. Now I have way too much vacuum on the engine to the point that I believe it is pulling air in through the crankshaft seal.

Nathan: I'm installing the catch can on my 2000 528i and the port at the back of the intake is not capped but in use by something else. Have you run into this before? Will there be enough vacuum if I "T" off of this? My other thought was to connect to the back port of the vacuum railbut apparently that is too much vacuum. Thanks, Brad

The bottom of the CC opening is squared off and not round like the top, so how did you fit the 1" hose on it? Lube the opening and manhandle it on? Lol. Wondering if you shaved off those tabs to round them.

Thank Nathan, do you have a video which explains why or when you would want to do this? I see lots of how to’s but I don’t understand why. Is this a weakness in the design of the engine? Is it emissions gubbins that we can do without? Does the same apply to E90 or will it fail emissions testing? I live in the UK. Love your videos. Very informative. Cheers

Thanks for the tutorial. I installed a catch can yesterday because my CCV was going bad. I ran a hose from the VC to one port on the catch can, then ran a hose from the catch can to the distribution line, where the ccv connected to and I plugged the dip stick portion. My car is running sluggish. When I am at a stop light the car's idle goes up and down. Kind of wants to shut off but, it doesn't and I loss power during load. Did I do something wrong? Does the CCV connect to somewhere else that it might still be in use? I would appreciate your help. Thanks!

I have recently done a ccv delete on my m54 and have been getting codes for running lean ever since. The mainfold is completely sealed and pulls plenty of vacuum, so I am beginning to think that the excessive crank case vacuum is pulling too much air from the crank case and causing a vacuum leak somehow.

So do these operate with full intake vacuum in the crank case? I thought the reason for the diaphragm in the ccv valve was to avoid full vacuum which may damage seals? Guess you won’t get any oil leaks! Could you just vent to air to avoid this?
@nitrocell9287
@nitrocell9287 Жыл бұрын
Ya that Diaphragm is very important it regulates across the board. Keeps vacuum limited but also keeps vacuum supplied especially under wide open throttle when vacuum basically at its lowest. but wait restrictive oil catch cans look cool....

I did the vacuum off of the top rail with one port, but i changed it to the 2 ports and used a tee in the line, but after i did that, The car seems to have more power, but the valve cover started leaking, and spilling on the exhaust. I have a new vale cover gasket im going to put on, but i was wondering if you think it might be putting to much pressure in the motor, with the tee, and making it leak, or do you think it's just because the extra pressure is causing the old gasket to leak. THANKS!!

If you have it hooked to too strong of a vacuum source it can suck oil in the can and burn it, make sure oil is not getting in the can and make sure the hoses are not kinked closed

@@multifarming7074 I've been using my catch can system for some time now with no issue. Look up 50s kid on KZbin and on his Ccv delete video he lists the right inline pcv valve to use. U DO NEED TO USE 1 otherwise you'll put full vacuum to the catch can system. Also important where the pcv is located which he explains in the video.

Hello Nathan, I made it exactly according to this video and I am getting massive vacuum on the oil dipstick when the car is running and after a while I get a misfire code P1351. What could be the cause?? Thanks for the answer.

Did you plug the rubber dipstick tube? did you use the catch can using the vacuum port on the rear of the intake manifold?
@petrmysicka7026
@petrmysicka7026 6 жыл бұрын
Yes I plugged the dipstick tube tightly. I did not use the catch can and connected the hoses directly from the valve cover using 7/8 hose through a reducer to a 3/8 hose running to the rear of the intake manifold by the firewall where I pulled out the rubber cap and coonected the 3/8 hose. To me it would make more sense to connect the hose from valve cover where the air is blowing out from the engine down to a drain tube on the dip stick where is a vacuum and this way than the air circulation is set correctly.

i will have to do more research , basically you will need to pull the ccv and block off the tube going to the oil separator, the catch can needs access one of the valve covers via the hose fitting on the rear of the cover, and a source of vacuum which there are ports with caps on the rear of the intake

Be sure that the hose does not kink closed because it will blow the seals in your engine if it cannot vent, in your case use the ports on the vacuum equalizer bar that you capped off
