Do you know that under that sponge/foam there are 4 screws, and your speaker comes off the black plastic mounting, without dismantling half of the rear?

But, if you are going aftermarket you need do do this. You need to seal with silicone so the box must come out

Great guide. Note that if you have the rear HPS airbags as in the later models of E39, then behind the lights up on each C pillar there are two bolts that must be removed. I believe that they are 8 mm you must remove those before pulling the C pillar trim off

Or to be lazy just pull off the speaker grill pull back the fome and undo the screws

I probably i have to do this. I have this knocking noise coming from the right side where the speakers are at I don't no of something got lose but while driving it get real loud and its annoying
