Hope this video serves as a good guide for all E9x owners that need to replace their oil pan gasket. Even though I didn't do this...I highly recommend removing the entire steering rack along with the subframe from the car so that it is easier to torque the oil pan bolts. I will briefly go over steps to remove the steering rack in an upcoming E9x front suspension video, which will also be a part of the E9x playlist. You can support me and this channel by using the affiliate links in the description and by liking/subscribing and sharing my videos! I have a few more DIY videos going up before we are back to our build videos! Can't wait! Thanks for watching and keep wrenching!

This is the best DIY tutorial I've ever watched...and I've watched a ton on varied topics, many from specialized websites of supplier firms! This effort is orders of magnitude clearer! The detail on tool sizes, and proper techniques sets it apart....that shows an understanding of how to teach someone with little knowledge of the topic!...Sadly, a key talent that is missing from many instructors! KUDOS!!!!👍👍👍

I appreciate the kind words Rick. It's hard to find the balance between too little and too much, I try to provide as much info as I can without going overboard. Filming DIYs usually triples the time for the job, but I am glad we are able to put them out from time to time!

Dude. I have watched a shit ton of BMW repair videos over the years. As a proud owner of an E92 in some form for the past 10 years, this stuff has saved me but loads of cash. Especially since BMW took TIS away from us. I just wanted to let you know that this was one of the best videos I’ve seen come out of the BMW DIYers community. (Not to take anything away from the Vehicular DIY) The video was fire Not because the production value, or the car, or any of that. It was all you dude, you have a natural skill for this. in particular, I enjoyed your attention to detail, and takin the time to repeat important points, especially when it comes to torquing. That can be confusing as hell for some people. Sorry, if I got a little long winded here, I just want to give you some words of encouragement! Cheers.

Your channel is under rated but I am glad it’s growing. And it’s great to see you collab with other creators who recognize your talent. As an owner of 3 BMW’s, I know all too well about oil,pan gaskets leaking and subframes being directly in the way of that job. Good stuff!

Thank you TJ! I really hope to do more collabs in the future, it's hard to grow the channel with DIYs since people don't usually subscribe. They only come for the things that they need. Once we start uploading more build videos, I hope the channel starts to grow!

The fact it is usually the inner part of the seal is more evidence that you need to change the oil more frequently on these cars. Pro tip too, use an inch pound wrench for the oil pan bolts. Set it to 12in-lb per ft-lb so 72 inch pounds. It's a smaller torque wrench and will help in preventing over torquing due to variable tolerance in the wrench's accuracy. I had this realization after doing my transmission pan (one wouldn't get completely tight, might have over torqued). I have yet to do my OPG but also picked up some paint pens so I can mark the bolts before final torque. Much thanks for the video, super informative.

Love the channel. Excellent video. I tackled the oil pan on my 08 335I E93 on my back in my driveway, then two months later the rear seal popped out so out came the transmission and in went a new rear seal. Your videos are always helpful. It's been 1 year since my oil pan and rear seal and still no leaks. Thanks for producing your videos.

All three of my oil level sensor studs snapped when I was taking it off. Once I cut the nuts off I removed the oil sensor and there was enough stud in there to use pliers to unscrew them. Ran to the hardware store and grabbed a 10mm bolt the same thread pitch and length and all is well. No need for a new pan like you mentioned.

Great DIY brother and sister. I read about the ridiculous torque procedure for the control arms. Car at full load on the ground + ap. 65kg in the left and right seats, + ap. 65kg in the center of the back seats, and last but not least ap. 25kg in the center of the trunk.Then torque to spec. Is there any garage doing this, while changing these control arms? Dutch regards Nico.
@ShopLifeTV Жыл бұрын
Thanks Nico! Yes the weight added procedure is also used during alignments. Most shops do not follow this as it is a bit much. At the very least everyone should have the car on its own weight before torquing suspension, but if it is a track car then the weight procedure should also be followed.

I'm at 148k miles. Oil all over the bottom of my car from the engine pan gasket leaking. But, one of my turbos had given up the ghost so Im currently having a bmw performance shop install new ones (Vargas). They're only charging me $200 to do the oil pan gasket in addition and I was so relieved. Plus I needed a High Pressure Fuel Pump and they had two good used ones from engine swaps they've done. $500 installed. I couldnt have done this on my back. Nevertheless this was an outstanding DIY video if you have to tackle it yourself. I would have freaked over those broken oil pan bolts. I got them new ones to install. Wished I could have afforded the new engine mounts too :(

I'd never use a Victor Reinz gasket given the amount of labor that goes into removing the oil pan gasket. You save $30 using VR over BMW but man I'd rather not do that job twice. I get that ECS Tuning sponsors the channel but that oil pan on any BMW is a bitch.
@razorrich Жыл бұрын
FYI - Victor Reinz is OES, OEM, and OE parts supplier. Mahle Group is their parent company.
@ShopLifeTV Жыл бұрын
I have seen OE, Victor Reinz, and Elring all fail prematurely, which is why I opted to use the RTV on both sides of the gasket since I don't want to deal with this again on my cousins car (he also doesn't live close by). ECS tuning doesn't sponsor the channel. We collabed on some of the DIYs for this E90, but I chose what parts I wanted to use.
