Good Discussion ... I know the intricacy of concrete because I am a Scholar of Roman History !!!

The instructions on Quikrete Fortifier do not talk about using it to form an intermediary layer between old and new concrete. All they talk about is using it as an admixture to make a new layer of sandmix denser, more flexible and bond more strongly to old concrete. So obviously there are more ways to use it than appears in the instructions. Can this stuff also be used directly (no cement, no sandmix, no mortar mix, no concrete mix) on old concrete surfaces to increase adhesion of sandmix that contains no fortifier? Yes I understand there is another product specifically for this, but I already have some of the fortifier, just not enough to mix with the sandmix.

Nicely done. I make decorative pavers with portland and sand 1:3 ratio same as yours so I could use more strength. Will the acrylic fortifying agent make the wet mix stick in my mould?

I have an existing concrete amd decided to install metal gate door at the entrance now the gate has a 5 inch gap at the bottom due to the existing concrete having a drastic slope. Can I use this to pour 2 inches on top the existing concrete to reduce the gap left at the bottom of the gate?

I made a pond/pool out of concrete blocks, mortared in with rebar and core filled with concrete. I will need to skim coat this to seal things up. I thought QuikWall SBC would have been a good option until I tested it. Now I'm thinking Portland Cement possibly with Lime (i.e. Mortar) wet with Acrylic fortifier or Ames Super Primer. Thoughts? Suggestions?

the front path to my house was tiled, many of those tiles were cracked so i removed those and filled with concrete ( not very big just 1x1 metre) lasted around 2 years . Now the concrete is basically "melting" away it became all sand ? Its annoying because all those sand stick to the shoes and get into my house. What can i do? Can i spray some kind of glue over the sand ??

You could possibly bond it all together by saturating with an acrylic bonding agent, diluted down to a consistency a bit thicker than watery, like a thin cream-milk mix. Try on a small inconspicuous area first. The mix will have to saturate through to the substrate.

I am looking at possibly coating a current concrete block wall with a layer of sand topper to give it new texture. Do I need to remove the paint from the wall or can it still attach? Also, do I need portland cement or can I just use sand topper and the acrylic fortifier to do that .25" layer of texture?
@Swimmingpoolsteve Жыл бұрын
probably you can use the sand topper and acrylic but in theory a render this thin should be pretty heavily modified so you would need 25% liquid content being acrylic, plus the wall needs to be free of paint, then etched with acid and neutralized with TSP slurry. Then rinse again so it is fully wet right before you apply your slurry and then topping mix. It will be a little challenging to get it on the wall this thickness, and likely rough float it and let it set up like a plaster render, before hitting it with a damp sponge float to level it out. This raises the cream so you can steel trowel and impress your texture. Timing will be critical for this to all work.

You could use a proprietary polymer modified render. And generally, yes, remove the paint, or at least scratch up the surface thoroughly.

I'm planning to level part of my floor. I have looked at the alternative to do it dry. And apply a mix of water and white glue after I have a level dry mix. But the issue is to bond it. Do you have any idea on how to bond?
@Swimmingpoolsteve Жыл бұрын
I do not know how you could bond concrete dry. The substrate needs to be wet to bond and the dry mix woudl strip out the water making it impossible to have SSD conditions (saturated, surface dry)
@dejayajay Жыл бұрын
Do NOT use white glue, aka PVA glue, as it will re-emulsify when re-wet. Use only acrylic bonding agents. I’ve done my own tests and this is definitely the case.

Latex slurry for bonding is ideal for areas where water permeating is a concern such as below grade and exterior applications
