so in your original video i didnt catch the part about recoating over wet slurry...dang it...i let slurry dry a day then wet it well then added 1.5 inches of new concrete today, but i did also use welbond in new concrete ...oh well ..its low traffic step fix if it lets go ..ill start from scratch...im learning and having fun..thanks 👍

I need to repair a large patch on an outdoor concrete slab...does it need to be waterproof PVA to make the slurry for bonding to the old slab? Great video

can you make slurry with weld bond the one gallon container or you need to use the small container. I need to know before I start on a project. please Steve I need an answer.

I concreted in a wooden post for a gate the other day, but entirely forgot to slope the top of the concrete to allow water to drain away, and so get standing water on top of some of the concrete. I have a load of pva knocking around but didn't know if this would be the best way to be able to add a concrete slope over the top. With the height the gate/ hinge will need to be, the highest I can add concrete is two inches at the post (then sloping down). Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

Can you mix the Pva slurry to be the new surface of about 1/4 inch in total. I am just interested in leveling the surface of some concrete for a pottery kick wheel and don’t really want to go really thick. I have some quickcrete and elmers on hand in the shop. Thank you

I am thinking about using Sakrete Top’n Bond as my cement powered product... are there any ingredients in that product to interact with WELL BOND glue??.

Hi Steve, thanks for the video and information. I read in your blog to add weldbond (PVA) to a plaster mix for patch repairs for concrete pool plaster. You also mention PVA is good for plaster in this video, but also say you wouldn't use it for underwater applications, which confuses me now. And you said you use latex for water applications/chemical resistance. So which bonding agent would you use for concrete pool plaster patches? Thanks
@Swimmingpoolsteve2 жыл бұрын
Plaster traditionally uses PVA as the admixture however plaster is not always for pools. So pool plaster you could use PVA as many do, but I do believe that the acrylic / latex is superior for plaster applications due to the water resistance. Also note that PVA is water soluable however modified PVA will only emulsify one time making it more suitable for wet applications like this. So modified PVA is one option, acrylic the other. I prefer acrylic for pool plaster.

I had to go through 20 year old notes but you really had me thinking about this. The original plaster methods as taught to me by some seriously experienced pool plasterers include modified PVA in the mix, but also a modified PVA slurry applied to SSD walls and floor directly preceding the plaster application. In particular these people only ever used Weld Bond product PVA. I can not guarantee that it is modified to not re emulsify after initial set. I would want Weld Bond themselves to confirm that, but 100% I am confident that Weldbond PVA in the plaster and in the slurry are the most common technical process for Plastering pools, at least in the pacific NW Canada. Important takeaway acrylic and PVA are not compatible products. It is one or the other.

@@Swimmingpoolsteve Thanks, I will stick with the old timer method then if that's what's been observed to work in the past even though in theory acrylic seems to be a good option.

MATH examples....So for example if you use 10 ounces of water add 1 ounce of Well Bond glue and mix to make the cement slurry, = 10% is glue / water solution. Example 32 ounces of water divide by 10 = 3.2 ounces of Well Bond Glue needs to be added to the water... 40 ounces of water divide by 10 = 4 ounces of glue to be added .

how much glue to add to 3.5 litres of water? As this is the ammount of water to add per bag of Quick Crete.
@isaacholzwarth Жыл бұрын
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it shouldn't actually be 10 oz of water and 1 oz glue, it should be 9 oz water, 1 oz glue. Take the amount of water, divide by 10, and REPLACE 1 part of the water with glue.

Hi, thanks for the video! Was wondering, Will this process work in repairing a mortar base in a shower that I cannot tear-apart and redo? (Im fixing someones else work, and have to repair it. HURRAY!) Im normally a tile guy. Im hoping I can score and resurface the existing mortar bed with a concrete grinding bit, add a moisture barrier and just tile. However, the drain needs redone as well, If I cant get the new drain to be level with the existing bed, and the mechanically scored (shaved) down surface isnt good enough, then I was thinking I may need to add 4:1 "drypack" mix or a modified mortar mix to raise the bed up some. Would this slurry process mixed with drypack work in this instance? (I know you said PVA slurry isnt water-proof, but I plan on adding a moisture barrier/water-proofer after the drypack is put down and cured for a day.) Does this plan sound workable to you? Once again Im a tile guy, so dont know the intricacies which you concrete and cement guys do.

Pva for sure is not the right product here. Probably SBR latex is what you need for a wet area concrete job like this

@@Swimmingpoolsteve Appreciate the info. We have Mapei/TEC/etc. They all should have the right slurry product I need, just need to talk to someone at the tile shop. Thanks!

What bonding agent would you recommend for repairing a corner pop on my house foundation
@Swimmingpoolsteve Жыл бұрын
The slurry made with acrylic fortifier due to its ability to resist moisture permeation. Alternatively a hydraulic water stop cement might be a good option, which you use without a slurry because it is so heavily modified with bonding agents already

Can you use just portland cement, pva and water for slurry rather than using sand
@Swimmingpoolsteve7 ай бұрын
Yes, sand is not always used. It depends on your application.

For me, unclear when you're adding pva slurry, when normal 3:1 cement?
@Adrian-ek5dg2 жыл бұрын
The water affects the adhesion, even if it dries too fast you should NOT apply over wet concrete. What is needed is another additive to slow the dry time
@dezznutz3743 Жыл бұрын
So you wouldnt want to apply it to puddled water, but a dry surface where the water has seeped through the pores and is right below the surface. The point is so the old concrete doesnt take moisture from the new mix your putting down, yes?
