Really enjoying your videos, Tony, and I am already seeing big improvements in a lot of my game. I know you have done a lot of videos on breathing in boxing - but one thing I haven't seen covered by anyone is when, and how you should breathe in, rather than always just speaking about the importance of exhaling when throwing punches? I am an asthmatic so I probably struggle with this more than the average boxer but I just thought perhaps talking about the appropriate times for breathing in, to ensure you aren't getting caught out of breathe. Is it better to inhale through your nose/mouth - or how much you should exhale to ensure you don't run out of breathe when throwing long combos for example. Love your work Tony please keep it up :)

Also how to be a good pad person when taking turns in training? Also tips recovery between training sessions and especially looking after sore hands besides wrapping well (during training)? Tony, I’m a 59 yo Martial Artist. I respect science. You’re one of the best teachers I’ve learned from. You’ve confirmed many concepts I felt were true. I’m opening a home sparring gym with MA half my age. My job is to hold my own and teach the younger guys the way to box correctly. I’ve not achieved Boxing greatness in any way. I did win Best Boxer in High School, I earned a Brown Belt in a Tai Chi Striking Art at age 30. I’ve studied BJJ to Blue Belt and sparred the Tai Kwon Do artists on Friday night. That was my truth teller- They could kick me in the head as well as punching me. I loved it and learned so much. I’m a Southpaw and generally circled counter clockwise. My favorite combos are a double right jab, left cross to the face and then looking for body targets. My combo for a taller opponent (I’m 6’3”) -exactly what you recommended- Left cross to the solar plexus- use left shoulder to protect against the right hook, throw right rib shots with impunity! Thanks so much Tony- You’re a great boxing/self defense teacher- clear instruction 😊

If you mean stiffness in the body always stretch mate before and after training.. not just stretching your arms and legs, do good long stretches. you’ll find videos on KZbin and you’ll feel loose and brand new after doing it. Excellent video, Tony. Very structured system, clear and understandable instructions. In former USSR, I had a rank of Candidate to Master of Sport in boxing, and Black Belt in karate. Saying that, I just want to emphasize that Your Boxing Tutorial makes my current, none-competitive training much more efficient and enjoyable. Great video, great tutorial, thank you very much, Tony.

My little boy started his boxing journey last week. Thanks to you Tony, and this video that you have made, he is not only learning how to box but also his confidence is growing. We’re going over the footwork daily as he is dyspraxic and so balance is a real challenge but coach Tony is helping with that (his words, not mine haha)

Thank you so much for such a detailed and involved lesson. I am an Indian from the capital (Delhi) I won the state gold, to represent my state in the the nationals. (Also a national gold medalist in karate in 2015 govt. run, and invitational gold in 8 countries). My parents didn't let me attend the nationals for boxing as they clashed with 12grade exams (huge deal in India). So looking at your videos has really helped me mentally, I am able to see where all I could have improved on. I am currently a computer software engineering, but still a boxer at heart.

I've been taking in alot of your videos and I must say you're an amazing teacher. You break everything down intuitively, explain things clearly, and get right to the point. Also the work you put into these videos (small animations drawing lines to show punch and or stance lines) as well as where to navigate in the timeline to different topics is very much appreciated as a viewer but I know that doesn't make your life easier putting it together. Honestly, these videos are some of my favorite to view and apply as I have recently started training/exercising at home (in Ontario Canada and were locked down). Thank you Tony.

I just started to do boxing for my fitness aboutg a month ago and I just did almost all of these all natural, feeling the movement and the balance of my Body. Now, seeing you, talking about the same thing amazes me and gave me confidence that what I am doing I am doing correctly. I would love to improve my head movement to the peek a boo style as I find it very effective to me because i have quick reactions. I will keep training until i feel confident enough to enter my first real fight as I am looking forward to it.

I really appreciate this video, the time it took to edit and produce it, and the organization of building a ground up. I have had a mixture of combatives training over the years, but I am just starting to appreciate traditional standup boxing as a life saver. In my work, I can’t usually afford to go to the ground as I’m always going to be out numbered and under backed up. If I go to the ground, I’m more likely to have to go to a weapon. Thanks for putting out this great content and all of the thoughts behind it. Might have saved a life (mine or some dummy who I can keep from the room temp challenge). V/r SN

I'm speechless 🔥🔥🔥🔥 can you do a video on how to be good at sparrrring
@robeart3 жыл бұрын
This may be long winded, and you didn't ask, but I'd like to give you my best advice anyways. I'm no expert, but I've been boxing for around 6 years with a few amateur bouts behind me. Start off light, get a good partner who isn't going to try and take your head off. Within 3 classes of your weight is ideal, but it's okay to go with a bigger guy if you know he's well mannered. Make sure YOU are not punching too hard either. Sparring is for learning, not fighting. Do some drills to get used to punches being thrown so you can get over flinching; my personal favorite is to put up a high guard while a partner throws light punches on your guard, trying to keep your eyes open the whole time. It's not perfect, but it'll make it easier to get over the initial fear. Always remember that you're looking to improve, and finding flaws in your game isn't a bad thing. Listen to your peers and take criticism, though try to avoid listening to people who clearly have no idea what they're talking about, I suspect you'll run into plenty of those if you're going to even a semi-popular gym. Keep yourself in good health, and as I'm sure Tony himself would vouch, protect your hands. Eat right, sleep well, and stay disciplined. Make sure you're sparring in proper gear, feel free to ask me if you need more info on that, I'll refrain from it for now because it'd be a novel. Good luck, I hope I've helped you in some way.
