I did the same. Here's my advice. SKIP ROPE for 10 minutes few times a week for a couple months !! I was in pretty good shape at 53 but the rope almost got me.

Great job, Tony!! Thank you SO MUCH! My reason for learning some boxing techniques: I retired a few years ago and am currently age 62. I’ve been a gym member all my life, so I’m pretty fit. I’m all in for SELF DEFENSE. I recently purchased the same “Bob” dummy man bag you use in the video, and am certainly looking forward to putting some serious dents in him. Be well, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!! : )

"Can you think of a professional boxer who had bad footwork?" The first name that comes to mind would be Chuck Wepner. But I would really have to go and look at some video before I was confident this was correct. He was certainly not very smooth.

I’m 20 year old been doing boxing and on off for years now…I don’t drink,smoke or anything else…do you think I would be able to become at least an amateur fighter within 4 years if I dedicate myself entirely to boxing cheers pal big love
@Brad-ro1cm14 сағат бұрын
you can "pretty much" become anything if you dedicate 4 years to smthin entirely.
@Lewis-l7u14 сағат бұрын
@@Brad-ro1cm yeah I guess so…very rarely you see someone dedicate there entire time and energy into something and just fail miserably…even if you do fail at something at the very least u tried and it wasn’t for you ❤️👌

The boxer at 4:43 in the middle wearing the blue shirt is Julius Ballo, he was one of the best Amatuer boxers in the US, just recently gone pro and signed with Top Rank and OTX.

This is a great teaching video. I watch different boxing channels, and a lot of them are for blokes that have already started boxing. But this video kept it simple,and it helps that you are a natural comedian.Also, you gave options on using it for just keeping in shape or whatever. I think whatever you do, you should have fun doing it. I'm 68 yrs old.Fitness would be my goal. I'm in decent shape for my age,and no matter the age,men like to think they can handle themselves in a real fight. I've been in a few donnybrooks,but it was so long ago the story gets better every time I tell it. If I'm at a bar or pub,and someone wants to fight me,they'll get mugged. I'll order a mug of Guinness drink it down,then bash them over the head with the mug. I wouldn't advise this technique to anyone,but it works for me. Great video. It's 6 degrees Fahrenheit here in Detroit Mi USA,so I'll start my training when it warms up a bit. Til then,I'll just keep curling mugs to keep my biceps in shape.Meanwhile Tony keep doing what you do,and take care of that beautiful family of yours. G'Day mate!

If you haven't yet begun, go for it man. I'm 74 and I train boxing 5 or 6 days a week. Have done so for a few years. There is no better way to keep in superb shape for an old guy, than boxing coupled with some strength work. Thing is, you not only get fit but you're learning a skill. That's a big motivator. For the strength work I use kettlebells, resistance bands, and power twisters, so that leaves a lot of floor space for a heavy bag and room to shadow box. Detroit eh. I grew up across the river from you in Windsor. I live in B.C. now 🙂
@m.ltucker431410 сағат бұрын
@Scoottoots You lived across the river,and my childhood nickname was Scoot. And some of my relatives still call me that. Scoottoots,I was doing strength work with dumbells and kettlebells and walking 4 miles five days a week. Now it's just too cold to walk. I still do strength work, but my now my workouts are more aerobic with stretching and doing hip rotations. I've never trained for boxing, but it looks like fun. The world gets smaller everyday. Thanks for the post and the encouragement.👍
