Braided bread is a centuries-old tradition. Michael Kalanty shows a 5-braid using Challah dough. The dough pieces in this video weigh 5 ounces each and are rolled to an overall length of 18". Note that the pieces are covered and chilled briefly prior to braiding. This makes the bread prettier and keeps the braid even.
