glad everything and everybody is okay! climate change is really taking a toll everywhere. We had 90 days of drought and 90+ degree weather and everything dried up this year due to water restrictions and heat. The humidity was enough to almost make you sick outside so most of my garden dried up :( We have just started to get fall weather here in October ..the temp has only changed a bit to 80 during the day.

This was my first year growing garlic. I lost some individual bulbs in small pots over the winter but the bulbs grown together in deeper planters have fared well - thanks for the plaiting video. Any tips on successful garlic growing, would be greatly appreciated 😊
@Lovelygreens Жыл бұрын
It sounds like you live in a place with cold winters? Hard neck garlic will be your go-to type to grow since it's much hardier. I've shared more garlic growing tips here lovelygreens.com/how-to-grow-organic-garlic/
@tatianka300065 жыл бұрын
I'd love to hear your opinion on when exactly garlic should be planted. Some people say it needs at least 30 days or even longer before the first frost. Others say it could go in much later. I've planted garlic as late as 2 weeks before the first hard frost (so even after the first light frost) and it grew just fine for me. I find that the size of the bulbs I get really depends on the richness of the soil and sun exposure, not on the time of planting. But I'd love to hear your take on it!
@Lovelygreens5 жыл бұрын
Time of planting does matter, but it’s about getting the cloves to sprout during winter rather than spring. Saying that, I’ve planted mine in October, November, and December and think the earlier the better.

Thank you for the wonderful video! Excited to harvest my garlic this summer and braid them :) do you harvest the scapes? If so how much do you cut to be able to braid them still?
@Lovelygreens Жыл бұрын
I tend not to braid hard-neck garlic since the stems are hard and not as pliable. Soft neck garlic doesn't form scapes :)

Thank you for the great info on braiding! When you initially leave the garlic on the ground before it goes in the box, how long do you leave it out there? I thought that I heard that sunlight while drying was somehow bad?

I never knew of Isle of Man. Such a fascinating place. I hope to visit with friends to experience the TT in the not to distant future. I found your KZbin channel while investigating beekeeping. I'm starting with two hives in the spring. I have a 3 x 20 meter area in which to plant a wild flower meadow to support pollinator. Never done it before. Any ideas? Thanks.
@Lovelygreens5 жыл бұрын
Hi Augustus and welcome to the world of beekeeping! You could sow flowering plants that bloom from early spring to autumn. Better yet, shrubs and trees - a flowering tree can be more beneficial to bees than a field of wildflowers.

Can garlic be stored in the kitchen through the winter? I was worried it is too warm for it. Second question is about onions and leeks. Perhaps you would be able to make a video about growing them, as out from many different veggies I grow I fail with those: both goes to flower instead of creating a nice bulb/steam. It happened to leeks last year and to onions this year and I don't have any idea why...
@Lovelygreens5 жыл бұрын
Garlic needs to be kept room temperature, dry, and out of direct sunlight. Cold makes it sprout, wet and light cause mold to grow.
@Armadija5 жыл бұрын
@@Lovelygreens I had it at the attic (cold, dark, dry) last winter, because I was afraid it will be too close to the radiator in the kitchen.... I stored well, but the access to it was a distaster ;) I will try the kitchen this season, direct sunlight is not a problem. Unfortunately I live on the northen side of the hill, what means I have no (nothing, not even a second) sunlight between late October and March on the property... Wet irish winters don't help...
