I am almost at the point of breaking 2:00, I improved lately. When I swim by myself, in main part of the swim session I do some technical drills, quick 50m x4-x6 (time 0:53 - 0:56), and 1x-2x longer distances (400m-800m). The main thing for me was the streching: in front you reach as far as you can and try to catch the water as much as you can (this will also force the rotation), and always remember about correct leg movement (do not bend the knees too much, in down movement keep your feet streched to the back and fingers pointing inside, do not overkick). I swim 3x a week (looking to achieve 4x a week), mainly freestyle, but not only - sometimes I have a full session of other style. And basically that is it. BTW: In Poland the swimming pools are open for you only if you have a licence of national swimming association or the one for triathlon, or if you train at a sport club or school. Aqua parks are all closed.

I was at 1:55 down from 2:20. Then Covid hit and pools closed. Now I'm back at 2:10, trying to break through the 2min again. Besides consistent training, I had a guided swim training. Very insightful for me.

This video is perfectly timed! The pools opened again this week and I’ll definitely be chasing that 1:xx

If 2 minutes per 100m is the target, I would strongly recommend joining a club or otherwise getting some coaching. It's really hard to make the technical improvements needed without coaching.
@SimoneChiaretta3 жыл бұрын
I can easily do a sub-2 for 100m in a kind of all out effort, but keeping those 2min pace for more than 300-400m max is where I fail at
@nathanmclain90273 жыл бұрын
Wow, this video reminds me that i could barely swim 50m lanes without tiring out. Now i'm swimming 1:40/100m. Instead of watching videos like this (which are ok btw), i'd recommend you join a Masters group wherever you live.

Now I'm down to 1:28 for 100m full out but couldn't hold that pace only hold 1:40 for 400m maximum .

It seems the local Master group are just showing up writing the session on a board and swimming away. Never seen any coaches around. Don’t know if that’s normal or not. Really friendly guys though.
@nathanmclain90273 жыл бұрын
@@jm6734 Not my limited experience. All our Masters groups in Utah USA (there are several) have coaches that are on deck working with everyone in the water. If you're lucky enough to have a choice between Masters groups like we do, maybe find another? If not, a private coach session is very valuable for improving.
@jm67343 жыл бұрын
@@nathanmclain9027 Alright, that’s sounds great. Unfortunately few coaches around here and even the one the triathlon club hired is doing the 'pretty' pool strokes thing..which is kinda ridiculous. But we’ve got a fantastic new 50m pool. Once this pandemic is over I’ll travel for tri and OW camps. You’re right. Good coaching is invaluable.

I average about 2:10/100m over a 1.5k swim (with some rests). I can probably swim a fast 100m in about 1:30-40. Think my problem now is endurance/swimming fitness and improving my leg kick

How does pace in a 25m pool with flip turns and the best technique you can afford compares to pace in an open water with some wave, people around, a buoy to look at and the additional buoyancy due to salt and wetsuit?

Whats the difference from swim, paddle and pull? Is there a vid?
@tonyg71433 жыл бұрын
ex swimmer here ; technique, technique, technique; is how you do it! get the efficiency in your stroke then it will all fall into place; oh! and keep your fingers and thumbs together to grab as much of the water as possible. Drills to include - using a pull buoy; do the below as separate drill sessions. armpits, - drag your thumb up the side of your body until its in the armpit; helps get that elbow out the water. Catch up - (with or without pull buoy) keep your arm stretched out until your other arm catches up don't start the next stroke until both hands touch out front - helps slow down the stroke and encourages the extension. only focus on fixing one thing at a time. now running that's my nemesis.

Would this pace be achievable with a 2 beat kick or would you expect to need to be doing a 6 beat kick? Which beat do triathletes usually do over sprint and Olympic distances?
@sk1ppercat9123 жыл бұрын
Depends. I can 2 beat basically the same speed I can 6 beat. My 100 pb is 1:12 off a push. Without ever timing one I imagine I could two beat like 1:16ish. But I mostly 2 beat so I’m used to it

6:30 why do triathlon coaches always prescribe fixed rest times? rather train with a fixed interval time and a pace clock so if you do 4x 100 on e.g. 2:15 this will make it incrementally harder throughout the set to stay fast to get the rest you need. then 2 weeks / a month later or so bring down the interval time incrementally to e.g. 2:10 etc. to finally 2:00. this approach actually forces you to work on your economy and form through a hard set, it's how swimmers would train

I think it’s really interesting that I have an idea of a decent swim time, as I was always a swimmer, but I have no idea of decent times for bike and run! If 2 mins per 100m is a swim goal, what equivalents are there for bike and run (20k bike and 5k run for instance) I’m pretty sure I’m way off any run goal 🤣
@Blond0Sonic3 жыл бұрын
I think that would be around 5' km running and 27.5 or 30 km/hr cycling. I don't see 2 mins as a fast pace but rather a one that goes well with the effort needed on the other disciplines.
@richcrompton68913 жыл бұрын
@@Blond0Sonic I don't see 2min per 100m fast either, so your assessment is great, thank you. Judging my performance by it, I'm doing OK! I'm mid 50's now, so I'll take those times! I'm up on the bike and current run times are slightly slower, but not by much! Swim on the other hand - smashing it! Lol!

Perhaps this is what most people want... I dunno, but IMHO your channel has this tiresome style of information overload instead of really focusing on one or two things so we can actually learn something. I’m back in school watching the teacher blabbering away as I’m slowly fazing out, but stay around for the nice swimming footage.Yes, this may sound harsh, but I dare say your infotainment is a wasted opportunity. E.g. The Lucy Charles swim video analysis was excellent, but generally I don’t expect to learn much at all clicking on your videos.
