That 2nd shot on the par 5 when discussing tip 6, plus the explanation for it, is a perfect illustration of the old Tommy Armour rule of thumb. "Play the shot you have the best chance of playing well, and play the shot that makes the next shot easy." That 7 iron has a much, much greater chance of finishing in play in a good lie than a go at the green with a longer club. Plus, it sets up a straightforward look at the green for your 3rd shot, rather than something challenging from a difficult lie.

I would have no problem breaking 90 if my drives were longer. On first hole you had wedge in to green for 2nd shot. With my short drive a hybrid / long iron /wood required. You made some good points to keep in mind on strategy.

No 25 handicapper has a 4 iron in their bag, and they probably feel most confident with a 7i or some Hybrid at best for their fairway finders. As a golfer who shoots 90+, it's the "3 off the tee", mandatory recovery shots, wrong shot-type for kind of rough that mostly skyrockets the scorecard (personally speaking...)

Yeah I wish I had a hybrid to demonstrate a lot of shots off the tee but didn’t have one!

I've seen so many videos with similar titles and the pointers are all great. But I think to demonstrate the point is very hard when you're a good ball striker. It'd be very interesting if you took a 20+ handicapper and caddied them to try and break 90

Slumpy!! You just have to remember a 5 on every hole is 90! All you have to do is get a 5! 1 tee shot 1 “approach” 1 on the green 2 putts Course management!

@ Touchè! Keep up the killer content mate. Also I’d love to see you go back to QLD & do another Grant Field video. That video has changed so much for me!! Plus you could play RQ this time.
@adm56182 ай бұрын
Agreed. Par 3’s become opportunity holes for par or bogey. That’s what breaks 90. All the par 4’s become 5’s and the par 5’s become 6’s. This is where the consistency and approach play works. Bottom line, to break 90 you need a decent green and/or chip shot. Two putting is a must.

I think you playing with a 18+ handicappers would actually be good long form content on course management to break 90. You could even make it a series.

golf was not meant to be fun, either you gotta be good or having a drink I created a game called strategy golf its point based, has 3 strategies, 'driver' 'approach' and 'putt' driver is hit 2, scramble, approach is hit 2, putt is putt another to mastery, have to birdie on both approach shots its 11 points per hole, 99 for 9, scamble 2 balls for fun

@golfslump9 күн бұрын
It’s not my swing or my ball striking I’m trying to say here, I’m sharing course management!
@McDuff19 күн бұрын
@@golfslump surely your swing and ball striking is part of it. Even when you dropped one in the trees it was a perfect lie. No lost balls. Unlikely 90+ golfers will be able to do a knock down 4i to keep it on the fairway and get within range of the green on a par 4. Golfers who can't break 90 are making bad contact, generally hitting it all over the place, are not long enough, can't actually chip even off a good lie, etc. Its a very select audience of golfers who can actually hit the ball ok but lack a bit of course management that you may have targeted here but not the majority. For the majority these tips may help them a bit but I believe its misleading as misses out the main point which is they need to put the work in to improve their technique. I agree the video has some value but golf is not as easy as that.
