I have to admit, I was a sceptic. Been playing a long time, score stayed around 94 with the occasional 80 something. After scoring a 102 I decided to give Matt's technique a try. I left the driver and 60 in the garage and hit the course. Last 4 rounds: 89, 88, 87, 88! Totally sold on this technique! Thanks Matt!

This is the most honest, sincere and instructive tuition I have ever seen on KZbin or anywhere else for that matter. An absolute masterclass. You need to stop whacking balls on the range needlessly and get out there with positive golf partners and make this happen. It should be everyone's goal to break 90. Golf becomes so much more enjoyable once you can regularly conquer this milestone.

Hi Matt! Thanks for your videos. I started playing again this spring after laying off golf for over 30 years. I’m a senior golfer. I have never broken 90. Today I had the best round this year. I shot a clean 93. I followed your stress- free methods and it worked to a t. Some notable points: - I played my shot shape (fade) off the tee and managed to avoid water and OOB successfully. - My approach shots avoided trouble. Only one bunker on the 18th hole. GIOTG! - I managed to NOT top one ball today. Swung within my limits. Better tempo. - Only two double bogeys. A few pars offset them. - I was on the green or just off on most par three’s. - My chipping was fair. My putting was not good - I three putted at least 4 greens. That cost me my sub 90 score. If B-dog can do it, so can I. Keep the motivational videos coming. Love the channel. What a Baus!!

Watched your video several times prior to my round on Saturday. Took all the advise to heart, followed everything you discussed. I generally break 100 but only just. My Saturday round after following your guidance I shot a 90! It should have been an 89 but I missed a 3 ft put on 18 to close out the round. Stupid mental gap. Everything I did was great, I can say the biggest change to my game was putting, keeping my head down and not moving until it dropped or stopped. I even had my first legit eagle on a par 4. 270 yard drive, 38 yard chip and rolled it in. Big thanks!

Had to come back to this video. I just broke 90 today, for the first time. Shot an 88 and I attribute it to the suggestions in this video, staying relaxed and focusing only on each shot and not my score, using a 9 iron to chip with for a bump and run instead of trying to pitch with my sand wedge, and making sure I hit the center of the putter face every shot.
@johndunbar73234 жыл бұрын
If I could just add one more nugget to this excellent video, I would say to practice hitting all your clubs different distances. If you hit your driver 250, then practice hitting it 180-200. If you hit your 7 iron 150, then practice hitting it 100 yards. I'm an 80's golfer and I proved this point to a friend on the backside 9 at a recent golf outing. I hit longer clubs shorter distances, and hit to spots. The reason this works is that you don't need a big swing . I shot a 39 for 9 holes playing that way. He couldn't believe it. It really helps.
@lobos8872 жыл бұрын
Shot a 90 today after really struggling to get under 95 for a while. Was very close to 89 just mistakes on two holes kept me over, mostly bc I didn’t follow the rules! But this was the most confident I played in a month or two. Thanks Elton Juan.

Had a chance to do a bit of an experiment this weekend as I was playing a 9 hole course twice for the full 18. Able to compare Way Of The Playa to how I imagine most people would usually play without thinking. I'm usually a mid-high 90s hitter for 18 btw. First 9 holes i hit my 250-260yd driver every tee shot other than the par 3s, and didn't split any shots after the tee. Even with 250yds to the hole i would use my 180yd 4 hybrid, only smashing it trying to get close to the hole. Lost 3 balls, a couple of 3 putts, ended the front 9 with a 51. Standard. For the back 9 I decided to STRICTLY use Way of the Playa Breaking 90 logic. Used my 210-220yd 2 Hybrid off of every tee and then split every approach shot longer than 160yds (my 6 iron distance) into combinations of my 120yd 8iron, 105yd PW, or 85yd 56deg. Putting seemed the same, only lost 1 ball on the 11th and played with the same ball from 11 to 18. Back 9 I ended up shooting an incredible, delightful, unbelievable 41. By far the lowest score I've ever hit for 9. Also got my first birdie ever, on a 320yd par 4 (210yd 2 hybrid off the tee, 105yd PW that landed on the left fringe, holed out a maybe 4yd chip in). Ive always believed in it but never fully put Way of the Playa into practice (peer pressure from golfing buddies would have me getting out the driver and long hybrids even when I knew I shouldn't). Now, I'm a complete believer and will be implementing strict Way of the Playa for a full 18. Anyone who has watched these videos but not tried the system, I urge you to try it out just once. Leave the driver at home, and split up your approaches, and see what happens. Never did I think watching these videos that my first time trying it I could save 10 strokes over 9 holes. The system just works.

However, I also love listening to these higher-handicap series to remind myself of some of these fundamentals. This works, I started thinking this way a year ago when I first saw this. Worked hard on my short game and devoted the majority of my range sessions on short game. I can say that last year I dropped my handicap from 25 to 12, I shot the fewest 90+ rounds in my life, and even broke 80 for the first time. In fact I shot a 79, 77, and a 74 last year! That’a the first time in my life I shot more 80s rounds vs 90-100 rounds in my life! Thank you for all of the help, and now I’m working towards hopefully single figure handicap this year!

Amazing how hitting the driver and fairway straight and far on 80% of the holes, approach shots either within the chipping vicinity or on the green (your tip), and the chipping with only using one club (your tip) a pitching wedge huge game changer. Thanks so much for your advice. I'm done playing golf now lol.

This. I did this exact thing this past weekend. Shot an 82. Lowest I've been in a while. Normally I'm around 88-92. It's all about relieving the pressure and just getting it on the green. I did find that my putting isn't the best...several standard GIRs with 3 putts. :( Now I know what I need to work on when the pressure isn't there. It's not about hitting it perfect every time. It's about having fun. :)

Hey playa, I'm a 6 handicapper, and this video is pure GOLD for any skill level. Just shared with several ~25 handicap friends. Keep it up!

Really enjoyed this - common sense and real talk that connects directly with idiots like me who often take the "go for it" shot that often ends up Oscar Bravo. Well done

Hey Matt. Watched your video twice, took notes, went to course, no warmup, no practice in the nets, no practice with new putting tip (don’t lift head, listen for the rattle). I swear I wiped 5 strokes off my game, and had the most enjoyable round for many weeks. Only 95 today, but I know I left 5 out there with silly mistakes, putts and an over zealous punch shot with my hybrid. I feel confident now in breaking 90. I will post the payment to your PayPal account when I do. Watch this space. Oh, and thanks a lot!

I shot 89 using this strategy, and shot E to my hdcp on that day - on a new course, after a COVID recovery, having not hit a ball in two weeks. I would have shot 85 if I’d left the hybrid in the bag, would have shot 80 if I’d clubbed up properly to hit the green middles.

This video is the truth!! Thank you playa! 2 things I took from this..."If you do something it's a glimpse into how good you can be" and "Practice 2:1 short game vs smashing balls and when you break 90 it will be way under 90"....I just shot under 90 for the 1st time...it was an 83 🤯!...Thank you, thank you, thank you

Just broke 90 with an 88 today for the first time and it was on a new course with 10-20mph winds! I've been golfing (infrequently) for 15 years and it feels so good to reach this milestone after such a long time! So thankful for these videos to get a refreshing mindset change. You rock @golfsidekick !!

I'm a huge believer that breaking 90 really just comes down to not trying to hit the ball too hard. Take your time with putts and make sure you take at least a few minutes before each round to putt on the practice green!

Tried this out today. I mostly flirt with 98 to 102 scores on my home course which i play 3 times a week. I have the skill for sure but i always held out for miracle shots with my worst clubs to save my round amd it usually goes the latter. Today i played a brand new course and played with 7 clubs and shot a 94 which felt amazing. 3 hybrid off the tee every hole. This way of thinking and over simplification is the way to go. I have no doubt ill be shooting under 90 at my home couse in no time. This guy knows whats up. If you can learn to let the ego go and play smart and to your strengths this will work!

When I broke 90 for the first time many years ago I used a lot of the same and similar ideas you're talking about. They work. Instead of giving myself one extra shot per hole I would mark through the par on the scorecard and replace it with my average score for that hole, which I tracked over time for the courses I played regularly. This gave me extra-extra shots on my worse holes, which creates a lot of options to avoid losing strokes to penalities. Plus, I could be aggressive/confident for par or birdie on my better holes. If I played a new course then I would give myself an extra-extra shot on the four most difficult ranked holes and keep par on the four easiest.

Probably the best golf video I've seen - good job sir! I average about 93 and can't break 90, but play some great golf in places, too many stupid shots. Some great tips throughout, I'm confident that when I can get back on a course (lockdown) I'll be under 90 in 6 rounds. And I will gladly pay you the $40 - there you go thats my target - i'm not just going under, way under!!!

Hey Matt, I just wanted to thank you for sharing this information it totally works. The first time I tried using 7 clubs and following what you said and it was a bit of a nightmare but I adjusted things a bit with the clubs and I have been practising my chipping and especially my putting. I have also read Dr Bob Rotella's book on putting and its helped heaps as well. Just back from playing a stableford comp on a course with a slope rating of 126 using your methodology I shot an 87 which gave me 42 stableford points and 2nd. Only 3 putted once with a total of 32 putts, so there is room for improvement. Playing it as a par 90 I had 7 birdies, 7 pars and 4 bogeys. As a par 72 course its 7 pars, 7 bogeys and 4 double bogeys.Playing it as a Par 90 is psychologically way better to see it. Thanks again Matt. Love your work.
