My Thedi is a veg tanned leather that goes through a “relicing” process which breaks it in completely. It’s the thicker water Buffalo he uses. There was no break in for me, and it was made to measure so fits perfectly. My Schott steerhide CXL is completely opposite. I’ve had it for a while and it’s comfortable, but still may do this to break it in even more. The thick, heavy, waxy leather is just stubborn and folds in weird places sometimes depending on the grain. Great information and looking forward to watching more of your videos.

I always just put a good conditioner on my leathers. Let it dry and soak it in. Then wear it for a bit. The conditioner softens the leather and helps restore the natural beauty to the leather. Your right just damp the leather because if doesn't dry right like you said it can ruin the leather. That is a nice jacket btw it shines incredible. 😊

I think you're talking about what is called distilled water in the states. Gallon jug for about $1 and it's supposed to be a type of purified water that's made by boiling water into vapor and then condensing the steam back into a liquid. The process of distillation removes impurities from the water. Shouldn't leave any residue!

Earlier this year, I bought a Himel Cafe Racer in double black Shinki HH. It's gorgeous and a great fit, but so is a straitjacket. It's a lot stiffer than I thought it would be. I've hardly had a chance to wear it because Colorado had our hottest summer ever. Breaking it in, my any means, is going to be a bitch. I've read about various break-in methods over the years, and simply wearing it, of course, always comes out #1 (and often there is no #2 or #3). I'm intrigued by the idea of placing the jacket inside a garment bag and tumbling it in the dryer on no heat with a few tennis balls. That sounds a little risky, but simply kneading the jacket at the shoulders and other stress points, perhaps while watching a movie, seems less dangerous. Wetting it by wearing it in the rain is what many recommend. I read an opinion by a chemist that the slightly lower ph rainwater (slightly acid) works magic in a way that purified or distilled water does not.. Unfortunately, here in Colorado we've hardly had rain for months, and when it has rained, it's been more of the thunderstorm/deluge variety-so going out in such rain wouldn't be much different than going for a swim in my jacket. My most recent idea is to look online for some canned or bottled rainwater that I could put into a spray bottle to use to give my jacket a wetting but not a soaking. Either that, or I might be able to make some low ph rainwater the way that adding moss to a fish tank can lower the ph so that the fish can better thrive. Whatever I try, I'll make a full report her as to the outcome.

I bought a leather jacket (sheepskin perfecto) a few weeks ago and I have a question, should I wear a backpack with it? I usually carry stuff like my license, a book, some water and very rarely my laptop and a backpack is the easiest way to carry it on a motorcycle/while walking, so much so that going out without a backpack feels unnatural now The backpack I carry is a canvas one, will that create unnatural wear patterns (especially in the straps area) cause it's surface is quite rough?
@DudsByDel

DO NOT put your leather jacket in any kind of “machine” washing or otherwise. especially if you can’t see into said machine. and REALLY REALLY don’t put ANYTHING into the machine (fabric softener,soap,conditioner). if you put a $1000 leather jacket in the washing machine or dryer you deserve the damage it will do. DO NOT put ANYTHING on it that isn’t specifically made for leather . this guy said “patina”.. that’s not patina that’s chemicals eating your jacket and destroying it.probably shouldnt even put leather care on it that’s not specifically made for leather *jackets*. dont put anything you bought at auto zone on it. if you get it wet, avoid spraying it. you want to get it evenly soaked to avoid water spots. NEVER WRING IT. EVER. DO NOT WRING IT OUT. the best way to stretch out a leather jacket is to wear it or stretch it on a form like a mannequin. wearing it wet can cause it to crease or wrinkle or parts will dry at a different speed causing water marks. just wipe it down with a warm wet rag and pull it over a mold or even stuff the arms with tshirts and put pillows in the body. stretch the sleeves by hanging it with weight on the cuffs but make sure the rest no wrinkles. if the body is too short….buy a different jacket. trying to stretch it will cause the zipper to “bacon” and it will ruin your jacket.

You don't want to wear it in the Shower or immerse it fully in water. You can strip down the oil in the leather and cause the leather to dry out. You have to remember that the back part of the leather is suede.

Never use chemicals on a leather jacket...especially acetone. This will dry out the leather and even cause it to rot. Rotted leather literally turns to dust. Leather needs to be conditioned and cared for. Why rush wear and a patina? The whole point of them is to tell your story. Why lie about it?

Very long, very drawn out unnecessarily information.You should change the title of the video instead of 3 things.How to how about twenty minutes of things you shouldn't do and then five minutes of what you should do fell asleep three times.

Let me know if you try the method. Perhaps a spray of water to the face to wake you up after the boring video!
