How is the new competition weight these days? Used to have a comet cafe racer back in 2020, but sold it since i don’t like the new comp weight they are using. I have a model B cafe from 2013 in comp weight and it’s amazing leather. Nothing like the new ones, they seem light and flimsy to me.

It's looks alright on the torso. The sleeves are just too baggy, though. Maybe hit the gym and pump up your arms. 😅
@DudsByDel
@DudsByDel Күн бұрын
The big arms will settle some, I think they could also lose an inch or so which would help with the bunching. Torso from front is indeed pretty good looking but the back has a lot of extra. Pretty sure a 38 with maybe some sleeve shortening will be perfect, I hope so

Hey Duds, wow, what a very cool leather perfecto jacket from Vanson! This is really a great jacket of highest quality and looking very good on you. - And - after watching the video I would say, it is really not to big on you! - I also own a very sturdy leather perfecto from Vanson, the "Highwayman T-2" with side lacings in size 48, which I purchased secondhand via e-bay. Wishing you all the best, peace and kindest regards from Switzerland. Keep on rocking your leathers! Your videos are really helpful, thank you!

Thanks Willy! Yes I’m really not sure, though it’s hard to convey all the nuance in a quick reel. With breaking in some of the oversized look may settle, or the jacket may stretch and look bigger? I’m hoping the 38 will be just right and answer the question decisively

Never use chemicals on a leather jacket...especially acetone. This will dry out the leather and even cause it to rot. Rotted leather literally turns to dust. Leather needs to be conditioned and cared for. Why rush wear and a patina? The whole point of them is to tell your story. Why lie about it?

Well done, Del and very thorough. I think that this jacket that hits about right for its price. The cuff looks like the leather was doubled over to provide strength there and possibly why it fits so tightly. Compare to your Schott or Rainbow Country jackets, where the cuffs actually enlarge a bit. In my experience, YKK zippers work very well and the size of these look right on this style. I'm not a fan of the pronounced zippers on the chest pockets and cuffs and like the looks of the concealed center zipper better. Just a comment about jackets and motorcycle riding. Obviously, any jacket can be worn while riding. However, all dedicated motorcycle jackets have built in pockets for armor. And, the manufacturers build in extra space for these pockets. The leather provides weather protection and abrasion resistance, but the armor provides safety against impact/crash protection. A good example is the Armored Vanson Original. The armor is removable.

Dude that’s not a one year review, that jacket looks vintage probably 90’s you can tell by your cuff zippers and your belt buckle it’s not chrome printed Schott it’s a thin silver looking buckle that’s the reason the leather looks cheap compared to newer models the leather of the new ones 2010+ look plush and more oily the older ones look thin and stiff looking also the fit it’s different

I had a Schott Perfecto and was hugely disappointed in it! The leather was so thin, the jacket length was stupidly short, it had VINYL on the inside waist, and the stitching broke in the armpit area. Compared to an $80 one I got the Schott was a joke. The $80 no name one had heavy thick milled plated leather, lace up sides, heavier duty YKK zippers, solid robust stitching throughout, a removable liner and a heavier duty alloy cast buckle to name just a few things. I will never blow money away on a Schott again. You are paying for a name and not a quality product. Eventually I bought a Vanson Highwayman, by far the best true biker jacket money can buy. Competition weight steerhide, you cannot fault it.
@DudsByDel
@DudsByDel 3 күн бұрын
@@chris101gray3 was the Schott jacket new? There was a period in the 80s where they used some cheap components. Depending on the brand you can indeed find some cheap robust jackets, Branded Garments comes to mind but there are others. Yes Vanson makes great motorcycle gear. Their jackets can be nice off the bike but folks have to be ready for a significant break in…and for some people their “bike ready” focus is too much. I’ve had several Vansons, the Comet was my favorite. Currently working on getting a C2 with the rayon lining.
@chris101gray3
@chris101gray3 2 күн бұрын
@@DudsByDel The Perfecto was a 90's era one, in barely worn NOS condition. The flared gussets under the sleeve zippers were also vinyl, this was something Schott did with their Perfectos in this period. I have owned many no name brand similar style jackets over the years who never took such a shortcut. Vinyl as you likely know cracks and deteriorates, exposing it's woven backing which looks terrible and cheap. I was so disappointed to discover this in my Perfecto, not to mention realising just how wafer thin the leather used in the rest of the jacket was. I love a leather jacket to feel substantial and purpose built, not fast fashion which is basically what the Schott Perfecto is. Actually falling off a bike, the perfecto would offer little to no protection between you and a road surface. People buy them for the name, for their American heritage, but this does not mean at all that they are a good quality when compared to the many other makes out there at a much lower price. Having owned a Perfecto I honestly cannot understand the love for them as in my experience it was the lightest and cheapest made biker jacket I ever owned. Fortunately I was able to flip it for close to what I paid for it and grab a Vanson instead which is far and above a better jacket in every conceivable way. Definitely grab a Vanson C2! They like all Vansons are heirloom quality. You will never look at another jacket again!

@@patricio3841 weight matters but so does weight distribution. For example my Cal Leather jacket is about 7 pounds and the weight disappears. I had several Aero jackets prior to this one that didn’t work for me due to comfort. This one does. The steerhide is more pliable than the horsehide, even it is heavy. What I find disappointing about the high end Japanese leather brands, even ones that sell jackets for $3000+ is that there's an inside horizontal seam near the zipper. Why couldn't they just make it one seamless piece? Even luxury brands that use lower quality lambskin can have the inner leather lining (near the zipper) as a single piece, and not 2 pieces with a seam. I know nobody can see it from the outside, but if you're the one wearing it, it just feels bad that the whole jacket is made properly, except that 1 part
