This is how I ALWAYS break in my new running shoes. Nothing too fancy, nothing to complicated with the process. but doing it this way always work best for me. Definitely give the heel lock a try if you haven't before! It might make all the difference for you and your running performance.

That moment you’re a 39 year old man and didn’t know wtf a heel lock was and your mind just melted. Quickly becoming one of my favorite channels brother. Even though I’m not training for any schools or anything I still apply a lot of your techniques just to push myself at the moment. Hooah

I’ve been running for about 2 months and started abysmally. Absolutely crushed my 10k today! 6:49/mi pace for a 41:30! I have been practicing what you preach, following your 6 day schedule, some days even removing the second hard day for another easy day, and today it really paid off! Thank you so much! I’ve started reenlisting at almost 34 and was so worried about the run requirements for my MOS, that I didn’t waste a second in going hardcore in my practice. I don’t think I would have accomplished this so quickly without your (and a few others) advice, training, and motivation! Forever grateful what you’ve helped me accomplish!

And by abysmal, I’m talking an 11+ minutes first mile. I was only powerlifting until I decided to reenlist.

I used to sell shoes at a store where we had to have real knowledge on the shoes cause we carried tons of brands and I used to teach this heel lock to people all the time. It amazed me how many people didn’t know this was a thing

Literally perfect timing, I just picked up a pair of Altra Ecalante’s to transition over to a zero-drop shoe. 8min/mile for 3 miles at the track felt good, but I definitely notice a difference in my calves with the lowered heels. I’ll have to give that heel lock method a try!!

Good video! The heel lock is one of many ways to tie your shoes to help your feet on runs. Different lacing styles help people with flat feet, high arches, narrow feet, wide feet, etc. Heel lock is definitely the one that works best for me. Plus, if your shoes do come untied, the will stay fitted to your foot

Good idea for a video man, I made the mistake of doing a hard run in brand new shoes and them not being broken in made my foot go to the side weird and I ended up with a knee injury..crazy how important your footwear is, now the cartridge in my knee is basically done

Old man (50) power! New 35lbs ruck distance PR 14.23 miles @ a 14:58 per mile pace with Daigoro (my dog). We were able to get under a 3 hour 12 mile standard; 2:58. [I failed 3 days ago and was over by 15:29] Did an easy 6.89 mile 35lbs ruck @ 18:47 per mile pace yesterday.

I love Saucony shoes; I've been wearing them for well over twenty years now, and have a late renewed interest in their product as I've taken up a regular running regimen over the past three years. Some models are definitely better than others, especially for running, but I have no less than five pairs around the house for various "missions", be it walking the dog, hiking, casual, or the apex, running, for which I have two pairs that I alternate. I find them to be a bit narrow up front as you said, so I'm looking into the "Echelon", which are supposed to be a wider runner, and now that I've seen your new post this morning (Sunday=Run day), I'm going to go pull the trigger on them as soon as I can pry myself away from your channel! Thanks again for all the good things you put on KZbin. P.S. - I'm gonna re-lace my old runners w/ the heel lock before I head out this morning; something else to look forward to today!

Well… gritty soldier strikes again. Not only did I buy the ride 14s, I did a heel lock for the first time and life as I know it has changed. Got the easyfeet insoles, garmont NFS AND took apart my ruck to reset it for myself. If I keep this up it’ll be gritty soldier and salty airman 😂😂😂😂. The crossfire dg-3 is sold out or that would be On the way too 😒.

Tried all differ makes of running shoes and found asics are best straight out of the box , just put them on and go . I have a pair with 1150 miles on them and they're still great . New balance the same though they don't last as long and the padding is too soft for me ,

Never been a soldier, but I do a lot of backpacking. What I do for my hiking boots, and all my shoes really, is when lacing, I skip the second pair of holes from the top, go straight to the top, and then come back down to that skipped pair. When tied like this, the knot has tension from above and below, and will stay tied longer. Also, sometimes when tied tightly in the traditional way, the laces put uncomfortable pressure on the top of my foot, which this alleviates. But I'll probably do this heel lock thing on my running shoes now. I always wondered what those extra holes were for!🤫

How is it that my wife and I visit a running shop and spend upwards $150 each for a new pair of shoes, and the sales people fail to tell us about the extra lace holes for the “heel lock?” And at age 70, it’s not like I am a first-time runner…
