Shin splints. When I walk, I feel completely normal. As soon as I make the tiniest hop, I feel pain like my shin bones are going to snap in two. I stopped trying to get back into running and this pain went away. I was really bummed out because I used to enjoy running.

@@stayfro123 Ah man. That stinks. Sometimes just finding the right shoe can make all the difference in the world. Coupling that with an insole to support the arch and the rest of the structure up your leg will have reduced loads placed on them. Thanks so much for this tip, I bought a new pair of trail running shoes, and on the first run I had a lot of pain on the right feet because it was to tight, then I loose the laces but on the downhill I got two blisters, so I think with this hack I'll be fine, as I already done it, and I feel my toes a lot less compressed, and I can tight the laces as much as I want now without having that issue. Cheers mate!

Every running shoe that I’ve owned over the past years have completely killed my feet on the outside portion and I’ve googled and looked and it’s really hard to find anything on it and I feel pretty stupid for not thinking about this. I just purchased the Nike invincible run threes hoping they would be a little bit better but haven’t been able to wear them because of the foot pain after just 30 minutes or so but as I type this I’m on mile 3 of 4 walking my dogs and I’ve had the shoes on for hours without any pain at all. Another thing you can do to alleviate pressure in the midfoot is instead of crossing the lace to the other side, to simply skip crossing and instead pass the lace up vertically one hole on both sides and then keep on lacing normally. Also, if you have a bunion, instead of skipping the first two holes completely, you can just skip the hole closer to it.

As far as wide shoes, the best option would be to try and find a specialty running store near you and have someone experienced fit you for the best shoe for your foot shape. All the running shoe brands will have variety of shoes that fit different foot types - the trick is finding the right one! If it’s your toes that are generally squeezed Altra shoes may be a good options. They are a zero drop shoe, however, so you may want to work your way into them. Good luck!

Sorry for the (very) late reply! I’m not super familiar, unfortunately, with “barefoot” style footwear to give you a good option. What about just parallel lacing instead?

I have the same issue. I always blow out my shoes prematurely in the same spot you pointed out. I was thinking maybe elastic laces might help as well. Thoughts on that? I'm new to running and having tried elastic laces yet.

Elastic lacing could help allow for some give over that area. To be honest, I haven’t tried elastic lacing before. You’ll have to let me know how it goes! I know a lot of triathletes will use elastic lacing because it allows for quick transitioning into shoes without wasting time tying the laces. Thanks for watching!

@@FOREVERun As mentioned in my first comment, I'm new to running. I just started C25K last week (completed W2D2 today), so take my opinion with a huge grain of salt. I outfitted one of my shoes with the "Xpand no-tie round lacing system" (elastic) and left the original "standard" laces on the other shoe. I laced them both the same - slightly different from how you did it: lace across from the bottom set of holes, up the sides for the next two holes, then start crossing the laces after the exit the third hole. I also used the heel slip technique at the top for both. During my "runs" I noticed no discernible difference between the two as far as comfort or consistency, however, I suspect this could change over longer duration (perhaps better or worse) - time will tell. I was also running on pavement so didn't have the challenge of variable terrain that trail running would. I have some new shoes coming shortly, so perhaps I will continue this experiment long term to see how things progress with the laces. One cool thing is that I've been able to slip them on with zero adjustment and go, so if they hold up longer term, I may stick with them. :)

Michael Auskings interesting! Nice experiment! I can imagine the elastic laces are going to have a nice hug without feeling overly restrictive. And that box lacing technique that you did should feel pretty nice over the top of foot and reduce the pressure on the sides. Keep me posted on it 👍 Thanks for sharing!

Wont this cause any damage to my shoes? just got a new pair of Brooks Glycerin 18. its perfect but still new and oainful on my bunions

Nope! At least not that I’ve ever heard of or experienced. If anything it should enable you to enjoy the miles you put in a bit more - if you can take some pressure off of those bunions. Happy running! And thanks for watching!

Will this technique of not using the top (nearest the toes!) eyelets potentially help with numb toes?? I only experience it in one foot and not in all trainers and walking boots. Thank you!
@FOREVERun
@FOREVERun 4 жыл бұрын
It certainly could! If your metatarsal heads are squeezed too tightly by your shoes (usually right in line with the first row of laces in most running/walking shoes) the nerves traveling between the metatarsal heads can be compressed which may cause one or more of a number of symptoms, including burning, tingling, and numbness in the forefoot or toes. And of course, the overall fit of the shoe may just not be right for your particular foot shape. So give it a shot and see if it's helpful and let us know how it goes! Thanks for watching!

OK, so I've left the top eyelets unlaced, changed to thinner socks and I'm not pulling the laces so tight and it seems to have done the trick! Really glad I watched this. Many thanks! :)
