The knead is such a great addition to breaking in a mitt. For years I watched various videos and pretty much all the same and I see this and says to knead outside padding and it works like a charm. Outstanding stuff

When one asks, "What is the best glove?" - One cannot just respond, "Rawlings" or "Wilson," as both of them have come to exploit there good/ quality names by offering various quality gloves. E.G. Rawlings has the Renegade series (around $40) which is a fine leather palmed glove with a mesh back, usually - especially good for a young player with undeveloped hands - it is easy to break-in and the textile back is already flexible and is of no consequence - in the SHORT-Term. It is a decent one or two year glove and can be game ready in a week with a casual break-in. However, it one wants a quality long-term or life time mitt, one needs to look at the Rawlings Heart of the Hide ($200+) or Pro-Preferred ($300) OR the Wilson A200 (about $300 and a lighter glove). If you really want to play/ be a starter through High School, and maybe play college (where they help you get a new mitt, broken-in), you need to go this route and plan to spend a week or two living with and falling in Love with your mitt, while breaking it in good. Enjoy!! OH, btw, enjoy the "tools of ignorance." Get a good quality set of those too!

Do you actually catch with all 3 fingers together? Or is that just for break in purposes?

Taylor Tubbs always Taylor! Try to get used to the feeling of bringing your pinky and thumb together with that grip. It will avoid the folded slice of pizza that everyone creates by closing the glove wrong!

Yea im 2 years late but my opinion catch with 3 in the pinky hole. Trust me trying to search it up won't work because no one other than thos guy talks about three in the pinky. My dad taught me and it helps me alot

Great video ! I just subscribed. I have a rawlings golden glove (catchers mitt) but every time I catch with it, it normally spits the balls. Is that normal? It's new. Hope you can answer. Thanks

Hey Kevin, thanks so much for subscribing. Hopefully we can provide you with some value to make it worth your while. We have seen that issue timer and time again... That is a lot of the reasoning behind trying to work the inside of the pocket outwards (confusing but I think that makes sense..). What tends to happen is the hand's closing motion flattens the pocket out instead of allowing it to close around the ball. Think about a crab claw compared to a hockey goalie glove. If you work on keeping three fingers inserted to the outside of the glove as shown, and focus a little bit more on squeezing between your thumb and pinky instead of closing with all four finger towards your thumb.That will at least help to allow the pocket to stay a bit more rounded and better at closing around the ball. Last but not least wrapping your glove as shown will add some additional shape for you. It's a long process but it is imperative that you perfect your shape before you start using it regularly in games. Ejecto-mit is noooo good in the catcher's hands! Good luck and keep us posted!

Sorry Kevin; ejecto-mit is a term we use to reference a glove which every ball is immediately ejected from! Just referencing a lot of dropped baseballs which is obviously unfavorable for a catcher's tendency.

When you say repeat as needed at the end does that mean tighten the laces all over again?

Hey Braylen! You won't need to tighten the laces again for a while. As the glove ages the lace will naturally stretch, loosening the padding back out a bit. After a few weeks of regular use we recommend going back to the laces but the repeat as needed is more geared towards the process of shaping and working the glove. Thanks for asking!

I recommend Rawlings, but that’s up to you! If you want a floppy glove at the end of a months use go with another brand.

All personal preference there. I have an A2k that one of our players now uses that has been used for over 10 years now. I think your reference might be right if you don't take care of your glove well but it shouldn't be dead after a month, ever.

I used to use a Rawlings, but then I switched to an all star after it got floppy, the all star was much better and only because I broke it in better. It’s all about how you take care of your glove. I can tell you love Rawlings and will defend your point, but I bet you haven’t used many other high quality gloves from different brands🧐

Hey, I am thinking of purchasing a customized a2k, would you recommend getting it stiff, standard, or soft when it comes to the pre-breaking in that wilson does before shipping it to you?

King Mac definitely not soft because they won’t form it for you I got mine stiff and the break in was amazing

Get it stiff so it can properly form to your hand and your style and they are more durable that way too.

if you have a TCB (Total Control Ball) - weighted training ball around, they are great for this. They come in softball or baseball sizes too. I happen to have a 2lb. medicine ball that is not good for much else, but is great for this.

Hey Trey, this particular glove was broken in for a player so it is no longer under our control! We will try to do a video soon with an older glove which was broken in the same way. Hoping to show maintenance and what the shape and feel should eventually turn out to be!
