On my E38, I've wired a pair of terminals behind the fog light which takes a second to remove. For others shown here, I think it would be easier to know where the main engine harness terminal block is under the car. example... E39 6 cylinder has a terminal on the back of the left wheel arch which can be removed with a 13mm deep socket, so you can simply jack up the front left of the car, block of wood under the tyre and add power from underneath.

my hood is openFor future lockouts I plan to do the following. on ‘06 BMW X5 E53. I plan to run a pair of decent gauge wires from under hood battery terminals and run them down to fog/driving light area. i can pull the plastic light surround off and run the wires there with screw on electrical connectors on wire ends. i can snap plastic trim piece back on and pop off if i need to put a 12v jump pack on those wires or put on a charger.there and that should allow key to work in door and i can pop hood or tailgate. I could also choose to run wires from battery to hide behind trailer hitch pop off plastic trim cover. that should work for me.

You can also do the same thing by touching the positive wire on the thick wire cable ( big nut) that goes to the starter motor. DON'T TOUCH the small cable on the starter motor because the starter will engaged

You're going to open it/unlock it once you've powered the alternator and given the car power.

Thanks for the tip. Hot to the alternator it is! In my case the battery is dead and the driver's door handle where the lock is, is NFG. I was actually there to replace the broken handle when I found out the battery was dead. Such awesomeness!

If you car is equipt with a towbar You can open your car with a car battery and speakercable and a meassure instrument to look what is your - and + . Take towbar for connect - and other + in 1 one of the holes except the - connection from the plug box of towbar. Make connections correct and wait 5 minutes and you can open your car with your key like normal!

I had that issue, on my Escape, even if you can get the door handle with wire, it will not open door, finally, I used a long thick wire, bought an inflatable shim air bag for $18 at Home Depot, inserted between door from top of door, and reached the hood release, took about 20 minutes but was able to pop the hood, and then jump the battery for a minute, and then I could use the metal key or press unlock from key fob.

may I make one small suggestion, the opening picture shows the hood open and of course mine is closed and seeing that I initially skipped this video. Now I know the hood is open for the purpose of video and location of terminals.

On the e39 there is a terminal under the front fender/ floor that is used to connect jumper lead Positive if you're locked out. It is near the rear of the guard underneath.

Maybe I'm missing something here. But if your BMW is locked and the battery is dead. All you have to do is put the key in the door lock, and while lifting the handle, turn it clockwise until you feel a little "click" (the door just unlocked). Then let the handle down and lift it back up. The door will OPEN! Then you simply pop the hood and connect jumper cables to the normal places depending on your car model... easy. no need to disassemble half the car to get at things.

@@taylorfoster532 what BMW does not have keyed door locks? 1) its a DOT regulation 2) if your battery dies (car or fob battery), how the heck are you supposed to get in? Besides the BMW mentioned in THIS video does have key holes and the point is, you don't have to take the car apart to get in. BMW has provided a method just using the "key hole". Assuming you are referring to E90s or later BMWs. The key hole is hidden under the cap at the back of the handle... pop it off and TADA! a key hole magically appears for you to unlock your car in the way I mention above. SIMPLE

Thanks for the tips. I have an E53 4.4 and an E46 convertible, and you are correct, if they sit too long, the batteries discharge. Speaking of discharging the battery, my X5 (2003) has "something" in the dash, around the area of the heater controls and/or radio (I installed a Kenwood with nav, backup camera, etc) that is always slightly "humming". I thought at first it was a muffin fan in the new Kenwood, but now I suspect it is slightly below the radio, in the vent area. Either case, it should not be running, I'm assuming, hours after I have turned off the vehicle. Any ideas?

if you haven't addressed this problem yet, a faulty Final Stage Unit (solid state resistor) for the heater & a/c blower fan can cause the fan to run at its lowest setting indefinitely. Try pulling the blower fan fuse and see if the humming goes away. Pelican Parts has a good walk through FSU diagnostic.

Hello Nathan,i had a problem in getting Into my x5 E53 2004,stupidly enough its doorhandle dont work,and battery got dead,i Came to about how to power up the car via the trailer tow contact, i purchased such adapters and connected to a separate battery,it immediately Open the locks when i turned the key, then i could Open back door and get in and reach inner door handle on the driver door! Yeah i know, time to fix that door handle!

These comments are a pain to read. Clarification: "But how do you open the hood" you don't, you crawl under the car. He has the hood open to show you where stuff is. "Just put the key in and turn it" if it worked every time this video wouldn't be here. These are old cars, locks cylinders break

Hi Nathan I disconnected the pos wire battery to do some work on my car and didn’t know that once u close your trunk u can’t open it I’ve try jumping starting from the front bonnet but doesn’t work Can you please help me out I have a 2015 bmw m4 Is there a way to put power so that my fob key will work for my trunk thanks I’ve seen a video where this guy uses a jumpstart cable Pos to pos terminal on car and neg to car alternator Will that work ?

Hey Nathan, thanks for posting these. one time my E53 would not jump from the terminals with an E70. had to get a AAA jump. battery and alt checked out ok. never figured it out. could you do a vid on the hvac system in E53? mine is blowing hot air out the floor vents all the time and I haven't figured out the fix. thanks.

Hello sometimes they don't like to jump from the terminals , especially if the battery is really dead, as far as the hot air on the floor it has to be something with the servo door or even in the hvac unit itself but for sure not a common issue on the e53, also thank you for the donation it is much appreciated , I will check into your problem and see if I can figure anything out.

is your hood closed and doors locked? if so you need more than a battery tender, you need jumper cables or a jump box

Had AAA come over and hooked up with big gauge cables and still no luck. He was baffled. Will probably try to drill behind the license plate to get open as last resort.

Ok I need HELP! I have 2006 325 and I don't have key, and no battery taken out. ( I took it out so no one would steal it while it sat in another town..stupid.. anyhow) once I shut the trunk it wouldn't open anymore:/ I got it towed . I have the title. BMW car lot is trying to make my life hard & bcuz I didn't transfer my name to the title..even though I own it clean&clear they will not order me a key. I'm supposed to move from west coast to east coast and fml . So.. my question about this is if I do what you said ... What if the battery cables in the trunk are touching metal? Is that a possibility? And I'm not car savvy but I have a hunch that would be bad lol.. any suggestions?

I'd like to point out that AGM batteries won't die within a week, at least not in my E39 525i, I didn't get the bmw brand, I have the bosch 1000 CCA which was only $40 more then the flooded battery, I do get that not everyone will go and buy an AGM battery and you were speaking generally but since people listen to you you could educate them on the subject.
