Breakups are a very difficult time but how you handle yourself post split will determine how long it takes you to heal and start feeling better.
A break up is the end of a relationship, and they suck regardless of the position in the break up. If you've been invested and your heart is involved, break ups are terrible. Aaron Marino of alpha m. says how you handle post-split is the key to your recovery.
Break Up without Breaking Down
You may feel depressed, lost, and sad. You may have feelings of despair, spontaneous crying, anger, and lack of motivation. These feelings are all natural. It hurts. All of these feelings will subside. The key is TIME.
If you start on a self destructive road, you will hurt longer than you need to.
Drinking in excess, for example, will only bring you down more. Build yourself up and encourage feelings of self worth.
Do not isolate yourself. Be around people who love you, support you,and bring you up.
Do not start sleeping around as you will feel more shallow, hollow, and empty.
You don't have to run from the pain. It will dwindle. You need to do things to facilitate the healing process. Start working on yourself- workout, build your wardrobe, get a new hobby. Take care of you, develop confidence, increase self-worth- and it's going to get better faster.

My fiancee (which I had honestly been really really good to) ended our engagement in starbucks a few days ago. As I sat down (already anxious and stressed), I tried to take a sip of her coffee and she responded by putting her hand up as a stop sign and went "ehh, social distancing"... I just can't imagine the level of cold and heartlessness when you already know you're about to hurt someone this much and just strip them of every bit of dignity and treat them like an infectious disease!!! It made me feel not only sad that the engagement had ended, which was hard enough to deal with on its own, but just made me feel so so worthless. And then she even went on to block me and call my best friend to say she "200% didn't love me", "didn't want to see me" and "the whole relationship was one-sided" that I loved her so much but she didn't love me at all. My self worth hit rock bottom and it sickens me that even after how she treated me I still love her and deep down I still crave her approval and validation... but it's the truth and I gotta find a way to fix that as its surely not healthy But am doing the right things: - Accept the suffering as it comes and not get a quick fix by sleeping around or finding a rebound etc. like i usually might have done. - no alcohol - eat healthy - Proper sleep - work out or do sports every day - Work on my self growth and try to learn from the experience and find validation in myself rather than from her or anyone else - Focus on a new project of my own Basically just treat myself as someone who's valuable despite her clearly thinking I am not.

Yeah breakups suck and even taking the advice is a challenge in itself because naturally you want to express your sorrow. However much you loved that person your pain will equally match it. But in the end brothers you have a choice and that’s to sit at home in your own pity and be undesirable to anyone and just feel awful or go out and start working on yourself and either you’ll win that person back or attract a new girl that’s everything you ever wanted. Well, I downloaded some dating apps, I think Tinder is widely renowned, and Badoo (not sure if you know that one) so I added some of my photos and some brief but honest text. The thing is everyone is different and most people behave differently. I am a very easy-going person, very honest, I never lie even though it's sometimes really hard. We had a match so I texted her and from her replies I could already tell she is different than other women. Few days later, I think it was 2 days of texting and then I decided to invite her out and she said yes - that was the 1st date. From my experience what I can recommend you to do is: - talk to people A LOT to gain some (conversation) confidence, my family, especially my grandfather really helped me, I had no idea how much he has to offer. He even predicted the breakup, but didn't sat at the time. I just bottle up negative emotions. Having tons of friends, and always acting out this hard leader line makes me either absorb it in isolation, or just suppress any emotions. I have had quite a few relationships, but the longest and truest one ended. I showed a bit of vulnerability to the girl, surrendering my love to her and letting her go for I cared for her wish to end our semi-functioning relationship, but in retrospect .. I think I opened up simply because I feared yet again swallowing my own pain. Which I did eventually. I simply made my observations about our time together, reviewed what I learned and found motivation to strive to become a better person. That's it. I could not risk opening up any problems to any friends, subordinates, family (even though I talked with my father about it, I never was emotional with him, and neither he is very emotional person himself). Some people just suffer through, because showing weakness will only cause more problems.
