We currently have 1 lonely fry survivor. It's in a home made "tumbler" right now, which we placed inside the original tank. Yesterday it began to swim freely up & down the tube. When should we move it & what should we move it to. We have a 10gal qt tank (but is reading approx. 4-5 salinity even though we drained it from saltwater & filled it with fresh to cycle) & we also have a "breeder basket". We tried doing a water change to lower the salinity to 0 & not ruin the cycle but it didn't work.

@nanikaos1811 жыл бұрын
Ok. Thank you so much. Since it is so small & tiny, it's fine if we put it in the mesh basket for a bit, then move it into the tank completely after it gets bigger right? I don't want the tank to be scary, freaks out & dies, or has a hard time finding the food. I was concerned about feeding so I ground up some flakes & pellets, soaked it in tank water & squirted it near/over of the tumbler hoping there'd be tiny particles to eat if need be :-p What about that salinity? Just ditch all that water?

does it matter if the female keeps them in her mouth till there fry or is it best to take them right away?
@CanadianAquaFarm10 жыл бұрын
If you take the eggs or fry when they still have their yolk sac you will need to put them in a tumbler. Other than that it doesn't make a big difference.

These fish are breeding in my sales tanks which contain multiple males and females but only 1 species per tank. Despite having multiple males there is always one that establishes it's self as the dominant fish and mates with all the females.
@CanadianAquaFarm11 жыл бұрын
You should move it now as once they start free swimming they need to be fed. If your breeder basket has hard sides that would work. If it is mesh the adult fish will try to grab the fry through the mesh. The 10 gallon tank would work too but you should fill it with water from the tank that the fry is currently in so as not to shock it with a change of water parameters.

What type of food should I be feeding the male and female to help with the breeding process or is there a food that encourages breeding
@CanadianAquaFarm11 жыл бұрын
I've never seen any signs of distress after stripping them and they are always eager for food afterwards because they don't eat when they are carrying eggs/fry. I have allowed females to carry fry full term and they are often quite thin afterwards, needing more time to recuperate.

Hi Mate Loved the video! I have african cichlids but they never produce any fry!Is there anything I might be doing wrong?temperature is 21 degrees Celsius and I am not using any heater!
@reginalram90509 жыл бұрын
21 degrees is far too low. your fish will not be happy and definately not spawn. Pick up a cheap heater and very slowly raise the temp to 27 degrees.

Will blue peacocks always produce blue peacocks? Also, I thought meat or brine shrimp wasn't good for Africans. Love the video, but I love the colors on the fish in the last 30 seconds. Do you keep all Male tanks in order to have them keep their color? I've bought some beautiful males from the pet store & when I brought them home they turned into a drab greyish color similar to the females. thanks for posting!
@CanadianAquaFarm10 жыл бұрын
Yes, they will produce blues. My peacocks were raised on a high protein diet with no problems. Each males needs its own tank to achieve those colours. Once they are mixed together the sub dominant males quickly lose their colour. For your application an all male tank with only a single male of each type may help but even then it is a challenge.

The mesh basket inside the 10 gallon tank would be ok but is not needed, the fry can go straight in the tank. Ditch all of the old water in the 10 gallon and then fill it with water from the tank that the fry is currently in.

I can't stop my Mbuna from breeding. Every time the tank gets too crowded I have to strip it out in order to catch some on the juveniles and take them to my local fish store. They sell them for £8 - 12 pound each but give me nothing for them.
@soulsreaper71456 жыл бұрын
u should start selling them urself online or ask if u can work out a deal
@rameshuthappa55234 жыл бұрын
You'll make peanuts 😉 after the deal with twenty or thirty fish. A farm produces thousands of fish, that's how they make profit. And Retails have to pay heavy rent. Don't give them let your other cichlids eat the fry. It's healthy and natural. Even in nature they will do the same.
@check2wice11 жыл бұрын
i think a good flake food is better than brine shrimp for fry imo. its easier to get, cheaper, and you can grind it into any size for when they get a bit bigger.

quick question... i had a male spawn with a female couple months ago.. purple fish with stripes with a electric yellow i added a larger cichlid and now it seems like both males are doing the circles n it looks like their breeding n its happened 2-3 time the last week. can 2 males do this. or could the fish who is suppose ti b male isn't the new blue fish is 5-6 in the purple is 4. or are they breeding or trying to but can't?
@CanadianAquaFarm11 жыл бұрын
Did you get fry from the purple striped/electric yellow spawn? Maybe they are both female. I've heard of two females spawning together but never two males.
@craighale303511 жыл бұрын
yyeah they had fry the purple one was the male the electric yellow im looking at the fry right now.ill try and upload video even thoi never have before. its really weird actually the male who spawned with the EY seems like there breeding but then thry both eat its quite weird actually. the new fish is the new dominant male id say.

@CanadianAquaFarm9 жыл бұрын
+Valerie Storm The fry are on their own once mom releases them. If there are lots of hiding spots some might survive. They will scavenge any food bits they can find in the tank. Certainly the most successful method is to remove the fry/eggs.

The female will spit the fry out when they are ready to go but unless you have lots of hiding spots they will become food for the adult fish. Also the female won't eat while she has eggs/fry and so she will lose weight and take longer to recover if carrying the fry full term.
