Love your style, enthusiasm, presentation, and genuine concern for the retail customer getting value for money by not wasting it on shop bought OLD worn out adults with no eggs left. That said, you make no mention of smell. Do you not use a general substrate (outside of the feeding and laying trays) such as vermiculite to contain and damp down the odour? or are you content to just put up with any obnoxious odours? Greetings from across the pond in the UK, regards, Jim.

Thanks for the message mate! We don't use any vermiculite. We just keep on top of our cleaning! Also yeah so many people sell old crickets!

Would you say it's cheaper for us to grow our own crickets to eat (I'm thinking of doing this) or would we just be better off buying them from the store?
@Schubugs
@Schubugs 3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what your goal is. A lot of people have fruit trees in their back yard that they will eat. An example of this is an orange tree. For cricket farming it is cheaper to grow your own, but it depends on how much free time you have during the day.

If you want to eat hundreds and thousands at a time, then it's cheaper to raise your own. If you're OK with a handful , like 5 or 10 , every couple of days as protein garnish for salads, then buying from store is OK.

Hi, I followed the guides and am growing them as you showed. Despite providing food, water, and protein, I noticed they still tend to eat each other. Have you found a way to prevent this?
@Schubugs
@Schubugs Жыл бұрын
Yeah they will still eat each other. These are just things to stop them eating each other more. Make sure you also have enough space in the bins

How do you reuse the coco husk ? Do you just rinse it off and strain it then dry it ? If so how many times can it be reused
@Schubugs
@Schubugs 3 жыл бұрын
We just leave it to dry out before we use it again. Then run hot water through it to kill any bugs. Might use it 4 times before getting new stuff

heat pads should work fine as long as you have good insulation. try using a different box that can hold the heat in better.

@@Schubugs I had vermiculite as the substrate until 2 days ago, now it's just a 80L plastic tub with 2 heat pads, a couple egg crates and food. Would towels do a good job keeping the heat in if they cover the heat pads?
