Pro tip if your reptile rooms warm and secure, you can always have a few loose geckos from mourning geckos to tokay gecko. 1 waring to this the mourning geckos will re produce and the tokay gecko will probably bite you if he sees you

I contemplated breeding crickets but it's tough to try anything else after I keep dubia roaches as they require so little effort to keep the colony going. So just buy the odd box of crickets here and there as a treat. Nice informative vid though never seen the water idea before either.

I know what you mean. Roaches are very easy and thrive off nothing. I suppose it depends on how many animals you have and whether that warrants you giving it a crack. For me personally it was 100% worth while.

Man I really thank you, soon I won’t have to order online anymore. With your set up I’ve keep alive 1000 1/8 and 3/8 crickets. I also had a batch hatch and I can keep the smalls!! The others will eventually get bigger but I need to figure out how to manage the bigger ones! I’ll probably just use a 40 gallon tub for the ones that get big! This rocks and I only check substrate 1 a week to make sure it’s wet for eggs! No constantly feeding and maintaining like my other feeders. I prob throw some clean up beetles in there as well.

thank you for sharing your cricket breeding set-up! it's the least intimidating one I've been able to find so far, and now I'm excited to see if I can replicate it! (my main culturing experience has been with fruit flies, mealworms, and harvester ants, so some of the other types of feeders I've been looking into for my herptiles seem to use a lot more intensive techniques)

Potentially. I think you’d have to scuff the plastic so the crickets can actually climb them however.

Awesome video. The self-watering is really cool. I had dedicated a specific egg crate and was eye dropping water onto it to absorb into it but its been a very manual process so far. This is a great alternative.

Ive bred these by accident in my scaly foot legless lizards tank a few crickets escaped into his tank and a few weeks later about a hundred baby crickets are walking around

Not hard if the conditions are right. Heaps of people bred them in reptile enclosure by mistake. But if damp soil or sand is perfect.

Awesome video man, I got a question, I’ve been producing 1000’s of crickets but they never get past the slightly larger than pinhead stage, they don’t die, they just never grow, I’ve had pinheads that are 2 months old and just never grow, they eat drink and no issues there, but they stay the same size forever….. wtf am I doing wrong? My reptile room stays between 73-77 degrees I’m at a complete loss

Just made a watering station like what you showed in the video. The cotton is absorbing water from the container but it also appears to be dripping quite a bit of water. Do you ever experience a little bit of flooding?

Never experienced flooding. Make sure the cotton cord is higher than the container so it doesn’t create a strong wick and drain the container.

I don’t think so personally but have heard others say their crickets stink. I think it comes down to feeding lots of wet foods to be honest.

Personally I don’t ever smell them so I’m not sure what others are talking about. To me, roaches stink a lot and I prefer the crickets. I’d assume that maybe the crickets are eating more greens and vegetables so maybe that’s contributing to smell with others systems.

I at times breed mealworms as well but have kinda let my colony go atm. Will fire it back up towards the end of winter. The chicken pellet I use is packed with calcium for egg production in the chooks but other than that I might throw in some leafy greens or pumpkin or something the night before a feed out. Whatever I have on hand and if I feel like they need it.
