Hey shrimp keepers,
I am talking today about How to Breed Crystal Red and Crystal Black Shrimp. The breeding of crystal shrimp is pretty easy once it is figured out. I want to break down a few categories.
1.) Crystal Red Shrimp Tank Setup
The right substrate and filtration for CRS. Also, providing shrimp with leaves and driftwood.
2.) Crystal Red Tank Parameters
Talking about the right PH for crystal shrimp. How kh plays an affect on crystal shrimp and other shrimp tank conditions.
3.) Feeding Freshwater Shrimp
Feeding shrimp is often turned into a complex part of shrimp keeping and it doesn't have to be. Learning how to take care of freshwater shrimp starts with knowing how to feed them. Which types of food work and how to keep the survival rate high.
Also, refer to a video I did a while back:

4.) Grading Crystal Red and Black Shrimp
Grading crystal shrimp goes two ways: color and pattern.
Color grading is based on transparency. If a crystal shrimp is solid in color, it is a high grade shrimp in the color aspect.
Pattern is based on the amount of white vs. red or black. The more white, the higher grade the shrimp is. The grades go from C grade (lowest with the most red or black color) to SSS+ (highest grade with the least amount of red or black). In order from least to greatest: C, B, A, S, SS, SS+, SSS and SSS+.
5.) Basics to Breeding Crystal Shrimp
Crystal shrimp can be bred with golden bee (snow white shrimp) to increase to overall grade pattern of the shrimp by introducing more of a white genetic. This is a common practice that I personally frown on. In my opinion, this is a short cut to a high grade pattern shrimp. Although this method helps get to the end goal quicker, it is frowned upon with many hobbyists leaving a sour taste in the mouth of the customer.
Also, crystal reds and blacks can be interbred. Although, a few generations of interbreeding colors of crystals will lead to a brown coloration appose to red or black. Therefore, this is not a desired method for long term crystal breeding.
I hope you all enjoyed the video! Thank you for watching and please check out other Shrimp Saturday videos for more hints on breeding freshwater shrimp:
