Do you only soak the paper one time, In the entire process?

Hi Simon, yes only soak the paper one time. I also try not to put more than one weeks spawn on it. If the container is not super tight, and the lid is opened often, the paper might dry a bit. In that case you can add additional water with a pipette or turkey baster before the paper gets too dry..

Nice video with great detail ! Have you ever bred the blue Gularis strain? The eggs seem to always go bad for me on peat... maybe I’ll give this a try

Hi Serkan! Do you keep epiplatys annulatus? I'm after some for a tank. It just struck me watching this video that you could use this method to ship non-annuals in a time like this, where auspost simply isn't reliable to get fish shipped with. Let me know if that's a possibility. I heard of your channel on SKF btw.

how long the killifish eggs are in the incubator
@KillieOrCory4 жыл бұрын
Depending on the species 10 to 14 days or longer. The good thing is if you put them in the water early they continue to develop in the water and hatch. It is important to do water changes in the container if the eggs don't hatch within 24hrs.

Nice method to know, guess you could use sponge too or microfiber but yeah everyone has kitchen paper :~) It would be nicer to recieve eggs on paper rather than in peat as you can find them easier!

Yes, it is very convenient to use kitchen paper towel. I am sure any other medium like a sponge or microfibre cloth like you suggested would work. But with those you would need to sterilize them in between use from time to time. With paper towel you can just discard it and use a new one for the new lot of eggs collected.

@@KillieOrCory kitczhen paper is often full of chlorid and other chemical stuff! They kind of bleach it. Dont know if it harms them!

@@DogMemes86 Having hatched quite a few different killifish using this method now I can say I have not detected any harm. In fact probably my hatch rates are higher. The brands of paper towels I used seemed to be fine in that respect.

I tried this and all the paper towels got mold before the eggs were ready. Actually, it didn't work at all.
@KillieOrCory3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. Did your container have a lid to keep spores and stuff landing on the paper? Also I find if I don't take out any of the eggs that go off as soon as I see them it encourages mould.
