I use a Sonicare brush on my dog. It's an older one that I'm not using anymore. It's takes a while to get the dog used to that noise and vibration, but it works so much better than a normal toothbrush, and I get it all done quicker. In fact, I don't even use toothpaste. I just dip the head in water a couple of times. It's the sonic action that removes the plaque.

@SaraOndrako4 жыл бұрын
If his breath is really bad, you should have his veterinarian take a look in his mouth to see if he has advanced dental disease. The only way to do much about that is to have a dental cleaning and then keep up with brushing afterward to avoid tartar build-up. Having really full anal glands can also lead to bad breath. It would be worth a visit to the vet just to see 😊

How often should we take our dogs for dental? Also, thank you for this vid! I just bought a toothbrush and beef flavoured toothpaste. Excited to try them out tomorrow with my dog.
@SaraOndrako3 жыл бұрын
Great question! It’s totally dependent on your dog and how much oral upkeep you provide. Small breeds and dogs fed strictly canned food tend to require more dental cleanings but it can vary widely as genetics aside from maintenance also plays a role. If you brush your dogs teeth daily to every other day - they may never need a dental 😊 If enough time goes by in between brushings to allow for tartar to build up, (you can see it on the tooth) then it’s time for a dental cleaning. It’s all about the health of the gums and the buildup present. Your vet (or a tech/nurse) can also help you determine if it’s necessary or not. Many owners will plan for a dental cleaning once a year with dogs over six or seven that have okay to poor home oral habits. The more you brush and give those yummy CET dental chews, the less likely your dog will need one. Hope that helps! And I hope your pup loves the beef! 😊

@@acjaxyz4930 so i did try it on my dog and he allowed himself the first couple times but then his body language was getting very uncomfortable and while my dog has NEVER bitten anyone ever, my past dog had bitten ppl so i felt like the body language was similar. Before i could risk it more (especially bc my current dog is bigger than my former dog) i had to stop it. I did learn that one spoon of coconut oil a day (or try to spare it around the teeth as much as you can, like maybe putting it amongst their food so they chew it) helps a lot with their teeth as it combats their bacteria!!! However look up how much is recommended for your dog depending on their weight/size AND if your dog is overweight you might not want to try it (due to the fats of the oil). I also try to just give him greenies like 1 a day or every other day

Talk openly with your vet - he/she can help you make feeding decisions that match your dog and your budget if needed. I highly recommend reading the book The Forever Dog for excellent nutrition information that is current and science-based. Belle : high per active she’s very jumpy and an attention seeker it’s gonna be a tought one Simba : a football player dog loves to run into me and doesn’t like his head touched Snickers : stubborn and won’t listen Juicy : she’s terrified of anything that touches her mouth Wish me luck!
@SaraOndrako3 жыл бұрын
Wow - forget the luck, you need backup! 😊 Belle: No attention unless she cooperates - relationships, even with dogs are mutual - the same rule applies to your dog too! Simba: I'm imagining a big bobble-headed pittie 😆 Only respond to Simba when he is giving you calm energy - no attention for the energy leading to head butts - the game ends when the head-butting starts. Try using a jerky treat or something that takes while to eat, offer the treat, once he's nibbling, your hand goes to his mouth briefly, then your hand goes away, then the treat goes away. That's a start! Snickers: As Dr. Sophia Yin used to say - "they're not stubborn, you're boring". While a bit harsh 😬 it does help to be more exciting than the outside environment. You can do that by spending a lot of one-on-one time with your dog and building a good relationship with them, as well as figuring out what makes your dog tick - food, praise, toys, etc. - and use that to your advantage. Juicy: Poor thing! Go slow with the goal to just tap and treat around her mouth not in her mouth. Gradually build up to holding your hand there for 2 seconds instead of just a tap, then treat. Then go to moving your hand closer for a tap then treat where she's a bit more nervous to be touched, then repeat the hold for 2 seconds and treat. If you do it gradually, she will learn that only good things are coming when you are near her mouth and not to be afraid. Then, once she's comfortable with that, you can slowly start tackling teeth brushing.
