I have only used a retractable leash for my little 11 lb Maltipoo. What I do personally is I keep the leash locked at a fixed distance that I desire for the given situation during the walk. The retractable housing stays in the hand furthest away from my dog and my other hand that's closest to my dog on the leash itself with some slack dangling in between. If we are on the side walk and the grass is on the right, the handle portion is in my left, some slack in between, and then a loose grip with my right hand to let the leash hang from my right hand to my dog so there isn't constant tension. I heard somewhere that constant pressure from retractable leashes can make a dog feel nervous or actually cause them to want to pull. If I need to let out more leash or pull it in, it's very easy. It's also extremely easy to loosen or tighten my grip with the hand closest to the dog if needed. I don't think I would do this if I had a larger dog, but it has worked out very well for the two of us.

Puppies drink a lot of water because they get dehydrated easier. Therefore, they pee more. My puppy is 10 weeks old and I've gotta make sure he goes out every half hour still. This formula would never work for my JRT puppy! He plays hard, drinks and pees. I believe every puppy is different and they will not all adhere to the same rule here.

Well .. I don’t necessarily agree . Eg. If a dog is trying to be dominant with his owner and growls the next step most likely is a bite. In this situation that behavior can not escalate and has to be addressed

So we adopted a puppy and have a adult 4 year old dog that started growling when the puppy licks her mouth or tries to nibble her. I have the older one on a leash since I know she is bigger, but guess I need to put the puppy on the least instead.

It's a helpful video but the trainer speaks way too fast and it is an effort to understand her because all of her words run together. I do hear the word three, as though I were the dog student ~ maybe that's the point.

Thank you for the great video! I'm currently training my dog to like the muzzle, she will put her nose in, but doesn't like keeping it on and tries to paw it off, I have been doing it for a while and don't seem to have progressed, but I think the movement will really help. My trainer has recommended Muzzle Movement muzzles, they are really nice, allow the dog lots of room to pant and eat, and also look pretty!

I live with multiple dogs nun of them jump on me I feel like when you walk in the house and they jump on you it is very impulsive nun of the dogs jump on me anymore for this reason when I get home after work I do not acknowledge Them until I am fully comfortable and ready for there attention As they are ready for mine simply down or off

Puppies are all different. If I waited 5 hours to take my 5 mo old pup out, he would pee all over the house. He still has to go out every hour. Totally normal. I would never go by this rule.

It’s not about taking your dogs food away mid meal for fun… A child could get close to your dog while eating and things like that.

Do you use any particular type of wet wipes? I’m dealing with urine scald in a 60# male and I have been wiping him, but I guess not in the right place. Also, I need to figure out how to trim his belly when he won’t lay on his side or back for me.

I feed my Grizz a raw diet and tooth brushing isn’t needed.
@samanthalake7986Ай бұрын
@@wolfspiritmom I give my dog a raw food diet as well, but my vet still suggested brushing every once in awhile. I was kind of surprised but on second luck, after brushing her teeth, even the first time, there is a lot of plaque gone that was there beforehand. I do have a chihuahua though, and they tend to be susceptible to dental issues.

I have to disagree with this. Sorry. A puppy has to go out after excitement or eating or drinking. If you are night crating your puppy. Make them comfy with ‘vet bed’, water, puppy pad or towel, stick to a routine, close the crate, switch the light off and DO NOT go back. Puppy will get used to the routine and you’ll have no anxiety from your dog when you go out. Always train a lot.

Gus has a big tummy so he can hold lots of treats. How do we replicate with a toy breed even when using all their meals as training? And any dog has to be either really hungry or highly motivated by food to consider their kibble a high value treat unless it's probably real meat. I find most training videos use large dogs who can eat more food, or if a smaller dog, they are feeding pure meat, including chemical laden hot dogs or bologna which cannot go on day after day with a puppy because they need other nutrients. Please address small dogs with small feeding needs.
