Now I saw the stairs... Just put them down below so that the deck is the final riser. That would have helped. The landing, of course, is a disaster. The guard posts are not terrible but the landing is bad. Hopefully you fixed that before someone gets hurt. WHEW! Just watched the end. Glad you're re-doing the stairs. Clearly your work is far better than those old stairs and I'm glad to see that deck will be completely high-quality like the rest of the deck.

Yup we told the owner to get new stairs and landing but he tried to save money, inspector came and told him he need new stairs and landing to meet code. So we did it right for him. Thanks for watching

would of went with a 6x6 with beams running on top energy going through to ground with simpson ties vs the 4x4 with a notch cut the piece the bolts goes through could fail

The ground post are all 6x6 cut out notch with three 2x10 sit on top, normally we build these with only two 2x10, the state change the code they wanted notch on the 6x6 post holding the 2x10. Dont know where you see 4x4 support post, the only4x4 are on the railing and the railing was build with 2x6 vs 2x4. This deck was build beyond what it needed. Thanks for the support

Ez Care If that’s the case it’s still the same you have a weaker engineered structure with notch cut. Having the beam sit on top is a better engineering structure why someone would notch a 6x6 when it could have been seated on top with no shearing fail point

@@bull5919 The notched 6x6 post is a prescriptive option in the IRC. Perfectly adequate because the beam is still resting on the column versus the old, far-less-safe, method of bolting to the side of a column.

Awesome job and video. One thing, though. IRC 2015 says the guard-posts (for balusters and railing) cannot be notched. It doesn't say, but I guess the solution to get the same fit - balusters over the deck - would be to fit a 2-by of some dimension between the guard-posts. From a finished look, you'd get almost the exact same result.
