We had to downsize & moved from Wisconsin to the Missouri Ozarks. I had collected scrap metal of all sorts for over 20 years. Always had whatever I needed for the many projects without buying much. I had too much to haul, so a scrapper hauled almost 20,000 pounds to scrap yard. I got paid 2 cents per pound.😨😥 I only saved about 1,000 pounds to take here. I need to start a new collection. I will be making a grinder/sander & a cold cut metal saw, & a lumber mill bandsaw in the near future. Appreciated watching your designing & building with what you have. Inspires creativity! I have welders & a lathe & drill presses to work with, but need an enclosed shop. Right now, everything is jammed into a shed without workspace.

@@homebuiltshop For sure. Your video was one of the few I watched about DIY belt grinders. It motivated me to start my search for parts. I posted on my neighborhood page asking for a treadmill. Low and behold someone had one I’m going to pick up this weekend. (but the motor has problems.) Amazingly enough my across the street neighbor showed up with a fully functional treadmill motor in a box. Seek and ye shall find. Thanks again for the great video and motivation! The search for parts continues!

Great project .At 15:14 you just got all yourl Christmases` rolled into one ,its a magic feeling when it all comes together, A sense of achievement you built your self, cost 1/3rd of the price you're pay at the shop, Knowing grinding will be a doddle from now on, Then showing your partner and friends, Then you move on to the next project that takes all your time up looking for the info , then finding the money and it all starts again, Its like an addiction, The holy grail if I had the money is to have a engineers lathe to make the parts,

That's SWEET I want to build one someday. Did you think about using your drill press to tap the holes. I took a machine shop class and we were taught to do this. You tap is straight up and down so the holes are tapped perfectly each time. And it saves your hands and wrists from all the turning. Again that is awesome
@homebuiltshop7 жыл бұрын
+christopher dustin thanks. I have done power tapping before but it was on a Bridgeport mill. I could slow the machine down quite a bit. My drill press goes to fast on the slowest setting for me to feel comfortable tapping with it. I really didn't want to break my tap. That would be the quickest way to do it though. 👍

Great project jeff! You can use linseed oil in stead of cutting oil, should be at most half the price if not a quarter. These tapping handles suck donkeys, but they should have a hole on the tightening arm, put a small nail through that and tighten your tap harder, won’t come off, BUT make sure you keep that nail around to un tighten, because you won’t be able with your bare hands Cheers!
@homebuiltshop5 жыл бұрын
Linseed oil works? Thats awesome. I'm definitely going to try it. I have since found my T-Handle tap wrench. Its so much better than this one.
@duminicad5 жыл бұрын
Jeff Baker for anything that requires temporary lubricant, such as drilling and tapping, I use linseed oil, when it dries it leaves a protective film, not as good as paint but good enough. Bonus tip: heat up steel with a torch and then wipe it with a rag and linseed oil, definitely beats black spray paint, the more layers, the better the result, around 400c is the proper temperature, but I got good results with lower temperature too
