I'd love to see you do a series on home additions. I think many times in The Sims, we want to buy a starter home and add to it in a semi-realistic way.

Yes! I'm thinking with the new pack coming up it's the perfect opportunity to do a video all about additions and ADUs 😁

Build Like a Nerd has helped me improve at least a hundredfold in building houses in the Sims, and I'm real glad to see new videos still coming out in this series!! Tremendously helpful in understanding some of the nuances of many different architectural & vernacular styles presented by an incredible host & builder!

I'm glad I'm back at it! I don't know how often they'll be coming out because it is a lot of work but they are back 🥰

Loved this! Also as a side note the large opening that you said is for owls to come in was usually used as a hay loft so typically they had a belt that they'd toss hay bales on & it would send them upstairs or they used a hay hoist that's why it was open or had doors to open it. :)
@sahm_and_bean11 ай бұрын
Yeah, I didn't explain that very well in the video, did I. I was meaning to talk about the openings specifically under the eaves, not the hay loft doors, which were generally for hay 😬

Sahm and Bean re: (00:03) ‘Today we're building barns, like a nerd.’ - Go right ahead. Never know when we’d like to build some barns. Or ‘barndominiums.’

Watching while spouse is at their appointment. Down the road from my home there is a very bright dark blue barn with white trim. Very beautiful in a field surrounded by wheat in the summer.

This is amazing. I love this series. It gave me so many ideas, and I like how you make little things I'd seen, but never paid much attention to, really obvious, with added interesting bits of information so that it makes sense and isn't so easily forgotten. Now I'm just looking forward to my next vacation so I can get back to building and try some of these!

Love this! I'd love to see you attempt a traditional new england bank barn - that's what we have. It was built in 1780 as a stop on the Boston-Worcester mail route. Bank barns were built on a hill, allowing the carriages to roll into the barn (maybe via a bit of a ramp up to the door) and then had space for the animals (horses) under the barn. It would be a challenge to make in the sims because of the basement level. Ours has a granite/fieldstone foundation around the barn and on the underside for the animals, you can see the trees used to run the span of the building and they are 3-4 feet wide, just have the bark scraped off. It's stunning.

I did think about adding bank barns to this video but decided to do a separate video on walkout basements and their variations at a later time.

This is great, but I wonder if you can help me. I have made my ranch house with short wall height and I love the house. Now I want to build a barn, also on the ground floor, but with medium height walls. I think I can’t do that? Do you know if there is a way to fix it, or am I stuck with a daft short barn? Thank you.
@sahm_and_bean7 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I think the best case scenario for you, after reading your other comment and everything, is to build a two-level barn with short walls on both levels and then delete the floor in between to make it about the same height as tall walls. Your Sims can go up stairs so you could potentially build the house on a higher level and bring it down to the ground, but you cannot build the barn on the second level because the horses can't do the stairs.
