How to Build a Bat House (woodlogger.com)

Building a Bat House is a simple and easy project that can be done in just a few hours. The house is made entirely out of cedar and only requires the most basic of joinery. I'm not sure if I have seen this video before. I have the same book and have been making and selling bat houses for about 3 years but I make them out of T-111 plywood with a lining material (plastic gutter guard) ventilation and a sloped roof. I also use stainless steel brads for my nail gun and stainless steel staples for attaching the liner material, both of which I got from Amazon. I also stain them a medium gray for heat retention. I don't have the book in front of me but I do not think the author would make it as simple and with out the basics like you show.

Where are the ventilation holes? Did you score the inside of the front and back panels to make it easy for the bats to perch/ hang? roof should be slanted to enable rain water to drain off.

What are the Bats to hang from ? You haven't allowed for nesting.

You need to cut the front into 2 pieces and have about a 1 inch gap between them that serves as a vent. They like it hot but still need some air flow

A bathouse is on my wanttodo list. But i have to figure out the type of bats in my area and the appropriate dimensions for them. Nice project!

Below comments are correct, you definitely need grooves or mesh on one wall on the inside and bats also like it dark, so it should be stained with a dark stain inside and the outside should be dark also.

The bats should be crawling up the back board. The spacer should be attached to the front board.

correct. there is nowhere for the bats to Klingon inside. The smooth surface prevents them from housing in the house. That's why you never had that in the first place.

Sorry but I doubt you will have any bats in your bat house. You didn't put anything for them to climb on or to hang onto. You should have either cut slots in the wood on the inside for them to hang onto or what I do is to cut a piece of window screen and staple it to the inside of the house while I am building it. They also need some of the screen outside of the house so they can land on it and climb inside. Live and learn.
