When you raise the grills off the floor, use that space under for bags of charcoal.... you could fit 2 bag of lumpwood under each grill..... but double line the "floor" so no embers can possibly get near, lol.

A modification you could make to your build ups is to put drawers in them to store charcoal and other odds and ends.

Very good. I’d probably have a fire extinguisher in there, what with it being a creosote-stained wooden shake with a fire inside!

Very nice! you have proven that a shack doesn't need to cost a fortune and it should be simple and functional. I like the layout of your shack, very good usage of space. The only thing I suggest is adding a tile floor. You can simply glue tiles to the wooden floor. As it is the shack is a fire hazard, and things can get out of control in seconds.

you could add running water using a small tank like they have in a caravan

@phililpb4 жыл бұрын
@@BBQLIFE not necessarily. you already have power and you can get drop in water heaters. a small 5 or 10 litre tank would be plenty. or just have a kettle in there

Loved this video! I'm looking to build my own in the next few weeks. Mine will be open. I can see where you are coming from re not having any water access. Does water run off that roof? If it did what about a bit of drainage into a water butt which sits next to your shack? I have waterbutts running off my shed I build. It is a tin roof though. Great vid. 👍

Its a domestic fridge I don't use it all year around mainly big events and Christmas. I just plug it in the day before I want it (usually full of beer 🍺)

Great video and a lot of food for thought. Is your decking on an existing patio/hard standing? I fancy a shack at the end of my garden at some point but it's lawn at the moment. Not sure if I'd have to dig out and cast a base first.
@BBQLIFE4 жыл бұрын
No base, the joists are screwed to pins that are concreted in at each corner and a few more to stop it flexing. I covered the ground in weed membrane. All wood in the group is also bitumen painted

Do you get problems with rodents, birds and insects since it seems quite open in that regard? Any suggestions to keep those things away (other than regular cleaning).

Spiders generally don't like smoke so I don't see many of them. Never had birds either. Not seen any evidence of mice but I do clean down surfaces every time in case.

Great shack and video. What materials did you use for the roof structure?
@BBQLIFE3 жыл бұрын
Cheers, the roof is reclaimed ply board the stud work is the same as the walls. The roof is double skies so the smoke flows out better 👍🏻
@skink863 жыл бұрын
@@BBQLIFE do you mean double skin? Also, did you have to treat the inside of the roof to cope with the heat from the Kamado / Weber? I’m starting to plan out an 8ft square BBQ shack and the ventilation and heat are the 2 things I’m trying to get my head round. Cheers.
@BBQLIFE3 жыл бұрын
The ply is on top of the rafters for the felt to attach to and also under the rafters making it flat so the smoke flows out and not caught in the rafters (Like a cavity wall).Does that make sense? Its not treated with anything special (Black ducks back fence paint). It doesn't got that hot to be honest
