Check out my new BBQ Shack build series 'Building Back' - • Building Back | A BBQ ...
My shack has been one of the best things I've done! Having an area where I can cook under shelter has been game changing. It's something that will always evolve and change as the years go on but setting it up right from the start is important.
If you want to know more about how I built my shack - I have an article on my website with some step by step progress photos along with measurements etc.
You can check that article out here - barbechoo.com/bbq-shack/

It’s January now in Florida and it’s prime grilling time! Finishing up the remodel of my outdoor kitchen but you made me realize it’s really a bbq shack! Thanks!

Ahh you need to change the mindset on the roof. I love the sound of the rain hitting the roof, it’s very relaxing, I have a heater suspended a few inches form the roof it’s fine

Nice one leaving the rain drop in. currently redesigning mine. Planning planning planning. Roofs are a pain I agree I want light too trying to find the best compromise.

Lots of great info, James. Hope y’all are doing well. I’m hoping to build my shack this summer, Lord willing we get past the pandemic and are somewhat back to normal here in the states. 🍻

I'm now obsessed with planning and building a shack, might be a pipe dream for a while but we will see!!! You built this all yourself?! Think I'd be hiring help!!

With respect to ventilation..... What i've done at the back of my shack is a piece of ready made trellis (about £15).…...6 foot by 1 foot....I will be putting a post up on the Pub Sheds / BBQ Home Builds group and the Barbechoo Page to show what I've done....I started my build February last year with digging out and then pouring a concrete slab....I did watch James' first video a year or so ago...and took some of that experience in my build.....

Mate, i just wanna say thank you..and leave a like and a comment... I`m doing some research into building a shack similar to yours, 8x10 open on 2 fronts (maybe... maybe build a bar onto one front)... based in central Scotland. Quick question if you have the time to answer... I see you have your utensils on racks and your rubs in jars.. do you leave them outside all year round?

Do you have any issues with utensils or cast-iron rusting from being stored outdoors?

What did you do about drainage? Doesn’t the rain run off the roof into your neighbour’s yard? My likely spot has a border fence to the rear, so I’d likely need to leave a gap for a run of guttering.

There is a strip of no man's land between us so it drains off into that. Wouldn't be hard to attach a stop of guttering along the back if needed

I got most of mine off a builders merchant in randalstown but most builders yards will have a supply. Maybe JP corrys? You could also check some of the hire places as they may have a supply of old boards
