I loved the parts from Tess' perspective even more than Jamies. For me they interact perfectly because of the relating trauma of losing a parent. Maybe you are not old enough for Tess' story line - and please don't read this as condescending. It's just - with age - other stuff matters. I love the way Tess grew - and I loved following her process. Because Coming Of Age doesn't only happen in your teens.

Great review. I totally agree. So much that didn’t need to be there. Rather than the two teachers and their concerns, I would rather have had more on Jamie’s dad - such a lovely character but so little said about him and his own grief and his relationship with Jamie.

Oh no! This was one of the nominees I was most looking forward to, I'd seen good reviews and it sounded so interesting. Thanks for this, you've saved me some money. I still want to try it, but I'll be borrowing it from the library rather than buying.

I think for all the Booker books borrowing the book first is the best option. It’s amazing how a prize the best in literature can have so many duds 😂

Another dead mommy book? 😅 The MC sounds very interesting in this one. Maybe I’ll give it a try.
