Thanx Mate. Exactly how I'm going to do my Boat, and also my side walls, except I wont stipple roll the sides. I wouldn't of known otherwise. Appreciate the time to do the video.

Doing this currently mate. Question for you, Do you find that as the glass cures, it pulls the boards out of shape ? esp as you have them sitting of the ground and not flush to the floor ? I'm guessing this probably only happens if you wrap the glass right around the edges to the other side ?
@RyanMoodyFishing6 жыл бұрын
HI MrCustomvs. Ryan is away at present but I was with him the last time he did it and it fitted straight into the boat on completion. So I certainly don't recall them being pulled out of shape.

Hi Ryan, After reading the comments can I double check a few couple of things. Do you give the ply 2 coats both sides of polyester resin before putting the talced up resin and glass on top? How long do the floors normally last like this? Where do you normally get your ply from? Thanks mate I love the look and practicality of this floor.

Hi Ryan Just at the flow coat stage do u find the light blue has advantages over say a light Grey with regards to glare and heat absorption ?not sure which colour to go thanks for any tips
@RyanMoodyFishing8 жыл бұрын
HI Mully, I have only ever used light blue or light grey and found them both to be good. I expect as long as they are a light colour they should be OK.

Morning Ryan. Laid out my non skid in the boat last night at about 11pm with a stipple roller. Worked a treat . Cheers!! On inspection this morning 5-6hrs later hasn’t gone off hard yet (still tacky) . Used a 1% catalyst ratio. What should I do? Take the covers off and let it bake in the sun or is it better to cure it super slowly ..
@RyanMoodyFishing3 жыл бұрын
Ryan just leaves it in the shed until it goes hard. Sometimes it takes a few days depending on humidity.

What the advantage of glassing the ply? Couldn’t you just seal it with resin and not worry about the glass?
@RyanMoodyFishing Жыл бұрын
It will flex and crack and allow water ingress. You can still do that it just won’t last as long.

Ryan few questions after watching your video , I am keen to pull the carpet up on my tinny and replace with your fibreglass job.. do you allow the first coat of resin on the timber to dry before laying the mat or doesn't it matter ? what would you think of the idea of mixing fine sand for non-slip purpose in the last coat aswel watched and another video that suggested wax for the last gel coat for hardening ? Cheers
@RyanMoodyFishing4 жыл бұрын
Hi Barmy, Ryan’s process is in the video. We don’t add sand and it is great non slip just with the stipple.

Couple questions about this process. When your coating the underside of your deck are you using talc to thicken up the resin as well? do you think it would be a bad idea to do the final coat for texture after the deck is mounted in the boat? I appreciate hearing from anyone who has completed this type of flooring, Thanks.
@RyanMoodyFishing7 жыл бұрын
Jason Badley no talc for the first two coats, better out of the boat for the stipple or it will flick all over your paintwork.

Hi Ryan can use apply this flow coat to marine alloy ? Save burning the feet and fish
@RyanMoodyFishing8 жыл бұрын
I did try it on a small piece of alloy and it stuck very well but i've never had it on a floor. A fibreglasser might know how it goes on alloy.

Sir can you recommend a similar product that is available in the USA? I've looked up flowcoat and UK sites pop up. Thanks
@RyanMoodyFishing8 жыл бұрын
Hi James, we are in Australia so I can't help with US sorry. However Any ships chandlery that stocks fibreglass supplies will be able to help you. The flow coat will cure in air and is the stuff you need for the outside.

Thanks for the video ,great info,just about to have a crack at the flow coat textured finish,is the stipple roller any special brand ? Do you find it better for anti slip than adding glass beads or sand? Looks great I reckon it would be better on the bare feet than the grit any advice greatly appreciated
@RyanMoodyFishing8 жыл бұрын
Hi Mully Adventures. Yeah I found the grit tends to wear over time. I spend all day on this in bare feet with no trouble.
