Great job making this happen. You’re a good neighbor asking for permission ahead of time instead of asking for forgiveness later. Appreciate the safety tips along the way. A broken line will slice thru anything in its path. How did you work out buying the old National Guard flatbed? That was a smart use of materials.

Cool project! Glad it worked out for you. We too had to build a bridge, which was quite a bit shorter, but years later, still enjoying it, and worked AMAZING so far!

This exactly they typed of bridge I need over my creek. I’ve looked for the semi trailers or even an old school bus but haven’t found one for a reasonable price. I’m saving this video to go back and study once I find all my materials. Good work. Good video.

A neighbor of mine used telephone poles. They’re about 60 feet long or more. If I remember right he had 4 of them and just used 2x12 across the top. I’m not sure how long it would last? If you raised it up on a cement pile or use the excess from the poles on each side to level and keep off the ground for moisture. I don’t know how safe or strong it would be? I’m almost positive he would run his old farm tractor across it but it was many years ago.

Where could you buy such an item at auction, where would you look online for the type oF AUCTION to buy this? We have a similar situation poperty divided by a deep ditch that also floods buy not that wide. We need to build a bridge across that ditch as cheep as posible.

Bridge building 101. Measure for foundation abutments. There are some cheep abutment concepts. You could bury 2 trees but couldn’t bury T iron or a mold for concrete. Cheep abutments eventually wash.

YOU MADE A CRUCIAL ERROR IN SETTING THE BLACK LOCUST POST. BLACK LOCUST IS VERY ROT RESITANT IF, AND ONLY IF, YOU REMOVE THE BARK FIRST. SCALING THE BARK WITH A CHAIN SAW IS PROBABLY THE FASTEST WAY TO REMOVE THE BARK. WITH BARK ON IT WILL ROT IN A FEW YEARS. ONE OF THE THINGS I REMEMBER FROM MY WOOD PRODUCTS ENGINEERING COURSE AT FORESTRY COLLEGE.
