I would put that stone on both ends of the bridge to raise the edge and slope the end of the bridge because as you cross it it will compact the dirt on either end and just get deeper and steeper to go across.

@davem53707 ай бұрын
Great job 👏! Couple suggestions from experience-secure the bridge to the tree next to it. This will help keep it from floating or becoming dislodged should creek rise and currents increase. Add some boards,maybe 4” high, on either side to stop from sliding off when bridge is wet or tires are wet/muddy. Thanks again for another great video 😊

Great job, will last for many many years if you keep the oil up to those boards , as a few others have mentioned a guide board screwed to each side of the bridge at the very ends of the boards or 5x5 angle bolted up to stop the jeep from sliding sideways if the boards are wet or if the jeeps tires are covered in mud to kerp from sliding sideways 😊

Great job, Wes! Practical, a good use of materials at hand. And you used old motor oil as a wood preservative? Great idea... it should last at least 10 years no problems. As you used screws to attach the planks to the poles, you could always add one more board and re-arrange the formation to get it more like you had it in your mind, but it looks like it'll be just fine. Thanks for some wholesome family entertainment! Better luck next time with the fishing! 😉

Yep, burned motor oil. Should be around for quite some time. I had the same thought on the screws, I can easily take them out and rearrange everything, but it seems to work pretty good.

That is one good looking bridge. I would respectfully suggest one small edit/add on however, because you're awfully close to the edges when you drive over it, and that's a 2 x 2 or 2 x 4 edge piece so you can feel where you are relative to the edges when you drive across. I know you have all the equipment to deal with it if you did slide off a side, but you know what they say about an ounce of prevention. Great video, enjoyed watching as I recover from a mi.

Always like watching your helper. He seems so happy to be out with you doing projects. Think your bridge should be strong enough for your needs. I would suggest that keep a eye on the ends of the telephone poles that they are not shifting end to end. As you drive the Jeep onto the bridge, you push the poles into the other bank. Thanks for telling us at the end why you wanted the bridge, made lots of sense.

Hi Wes. The gap between the boards does not seem to matter at all. The Jeep tires span the gap. Long time desire meets short time work, relatively.
@stevesilsby52888 ай бұрын
Good job. If you ever want to you can cut narrow boards to fill those gaps. I wonder though, why did you cut all those boards shorter?
@falllineridge8 ай бұрын
There really wasn't enough room to leave them full length, however I do wish I had left about 6 more inches on them.
@joebacarella28298 ай бұрын
I don`t know Wes, maybe you shouldn`t have cut those boards, it seems pretty narrow, maybe you could use your scrap bark wood from the sawmill and screw some sides on it, but it does the job. The bank seems very dry, so I don`t think those telephone poles are rotting anytime soon, son and dad build a bridge, nice job.

Hi Wes. Great job! Specially with your new "helper" it made it way more fast than alone. I´m not an engeneer but my intuitions says me, if you manage to place the tires of your tractors as near as posible on top the telephone posts, the bridge may held them as well. They are extremly resistant. Is it worth to give it a try? As always, cherers and blessings to you, your family and friends from NE Patagonia, Argentina.

@@falllineridge Thanks alot for answering my coment. I´d like to suggest you on trying with your jeep and loading it slowly adding weight. It might give you an idea how resistant it is.
