Or just play salamanders. Heres a taster. 15 hellblasters. Captain. Lieutenant. Salamanders cgapter tactics. Reroll one failed hit roll and 1 failed wound roll. Then because of Cptn + letnt you reroll fails to hit and wound of 1. Your badically rerolling everything. Against horde armies loads of agressors plus sternguard vets with vulkan he'stan your pretty much rerolling everything foing 2 d6 shots a piece. There not as good as ultramarines but theyre damn near close

Good overview, my only comment would be to switch round the choosing of the faction and the army playstyle, as some armies just can't do some playstyles, eg. I like the look of deathwatch and prefer horde tactics. It would be better to choose the faction on what tactics you prefer, otherwise you're end up with some people wondering why their close combat tau list doesn't work :) Also I think things will change depending on how someone is going to collect the army. If you are just buying the army painted for competition you're critera for choosing an army is fine. However for most people who have to assemble and paint their army choosing an army you like the look of is quite important as you need to paint it all, and it doesn't matter how competitive an army is if a person doesn't complete it to take to any tournaments. Really gotta give Brady some props here, I'm watching your channel for some time and im pretty sure you started actively posting videos at the same time I started playing WH40k and it really helped my find a focused playstyle and how to use certain rules to my advantage. Im playing DG/Daemons (because its simply what i have) and I actually have a winrate far above 50% in our campaign with a lot of ppl who play for years (10+ in some cases as far as i know) and who also played at tournaments with strong lists. I'm pretty sure I wouldnt have been able to actually start winning in such a short time without your videos. Great video, covers pretty much everything there is to know! You could have mentioned some other ways to bypass the rule of three: Using squadrons allows you to field for example three hellhounds per slot which makes a total of nine. Also take units into consideration units that work quite similar to the original unit like the venerable dreadnought and the normal one. Another way to outsmart this rule is going with forgeworld: you really like predators for using the killshot strat? Take three normal ones and three of the hellforged type. Am I "that guy" when bringing only carnifexes and neuranthropes to the table? Love the fexes too much to play only three😅

Seems like Necrons are supposed to be a Death Ball army because of the idea of a phalanx. It seems like the only way to make a phalanx work is 45+ Warriors, an Overlord equivalent that lets them ignore morale, lords and crypteks to buff the phalanx, and Destroyers to hang behind the phalanx to do some good damage. Then maybe a unit of Lychguard/wraiths/c’tan to make the phalanx a little trickier to charge.

Don't get me wrong; the fluff for 40k is amazing! I'm even going to be doing a narrative campaign in a few months on the channel. But in tournaments fluff doesn't really have a place IMO since at high level play every point spent matters a lot more than if the list makes sense lore-wise or not.

What would be the best way to play Dark Angels? I'm thinking of playing just a gunline army but then again they could beta strike with the whole Ravenwing/Deathwing combo and I used to think well why not combine the two, play gunline with a beta strike combo but that brings down the efficiency cause I would be trying to do two things at once, which is a better way to play them?

Probably as a straight up gunline. DA are in a bad spot tbh because a lot of their good units are overpriced for what they do. Personally though I think a Primaris Gunline with Azreal could work for them, but tbh it probably won't win you any events but could at least take some games off of your friends.

I agree. I play DA and they can do really well against other marine factions. However, come against the top tier armies and it all falls down, quickly. I’ve put some guard in there for cheap bodies and CP farm. Scions can also make an interesting addition. I love playing my DA but competitively they are not quite there. Ravenwing and Deathwing are too expensive for what they do. Azzi with hellblasters and an ancient can do some good damage but can be quickly overrun. Dark Talon is good but has been nurfed with it’s points increase.

I have been playing a list that is called helms keep in our local communuty. Azrael, 4 full las cannon devastators a lieutenant and some scouts as bubble wrap. Trow in the optional flyer or some more tanks depending on the local meta. You have a solid gunline with rerolls and invul saves. And You can add a darksgroud for the -1 to hit. You will lose against horde armies, but i had decent success against astra militarum, custodes, tau and necrons. (again this is what i am mostly facing locally)

The thing about picking an army just for its strength is that it's GW. You may get hit with a Nerf that fucks your build before you've cut the pieces from the sprue, and while it may be a bit before your army gets nerfed, it will happen. Now you're out a few hundred bucks for an army that no longer has the power that drew you to it in the first place in. If you're ok with dropping serious money on an army that could be shit next month, buying into the next big thing, having it get nerfed, buying the next big thing, and so on, sure pick solely on power. Otherwise, you do probably want to consider more factors than who is at the top when you're buying in else that nerf is going to hurt you a lot.

So i run a semi competent list (ithink?). SM troops with he stan and an ancient in the middle with lots of flamers and meltaguns from characters and sternguard. every unit stuffed in a transport or drop pod idea is to punch a hole in their lines drop pod in the opening and blast them to pieces its fun dropping a castellan down 10 - 15 wounds with a squad of combi flamers before lighting it up with las cannons and meltaguns

Necrons are weird. I think warriors need a points decrease to make them more viable, as of right now most lists I've seen can't afford to bring enough infantry to stand a chance, and it's not like they can soup in some AM like imperial armies for the bodies. I hope they get some tweaks in chapter approved.

Almost Pro Gaming i think every other army in game can get access to a 200pts ish battalion through allies or their own army. Necrons are the exception. Even a point reduction won't fix this. The only was I can see for this to happen is to make Scarabs troops. Or have warriors in squads of 5 and a point reduction. The problem for necrons is they are pointed as an equivalent against normal marines which I think need a point reduction too. The difference between a marines cost versus say plague marine or rubric marine doesn't come close to the increased abilities they both have

The "types" of armies are more or less just play styles, so just build/play the army the way that's working for you. Those "types" are more or less just to lead you in the right direction and give you a bit of strategy on how to use that play style.

My astra militarum is backed up by Adeptus Custodes is this a viable tactic I use the Custodes as melee support and something to distract the opponent while my guard send volleys of ranged fire.

Right now my list consists of some marines and obliterators a couple Deamons khorne berserkers and is used as a Melee rush I usually stick a defiler and tri las predator at the back as well. I recently got some obliterators to anyone who sees this, is playing those tanks not the best idea.

Depending on how many points the game is I'll run anywhere between 1-3 max squads of Destroyers (1 heavy Destroyer in each squad) with a Destroyer Lord and Canoptek giving support.

@@AlmostProGaming First of all, thank you for the input! And I'll probably use a Plaugebearer screen like that with Poxbringers to give the Miasma of Pestilence. The idea of the cultist ((with an Iron Warrior Daemon Prince giving them Cold and Bitter)) was spawned for a narrative point in an army, but the Plaguebearers are definitely better. If I do go competitive with the list, I'll invest in the Plaguebearers instead of the Cultists with Daemon Prince.

Isn't the rule of 3 for units, just that? Units which means you can have multiple "models" in a unit but can only have 3 units? Example would be, to run 4 Broadsides I can run 2 models as individual "units" and then put 2 Broadsides in a unit. Which would be 3 "units".

Smashcaptain is a captain with jump pack thunderhammer and stormsheild - he is the generic one, if you ever hear "captain smashfucker" or "captain smash" that is what people are refering too. A Smash lord is the same thing, except a wolf lord (wolves captain basically).

I can't really say until they get their new supplement. It's hard to explain, but 8 of the space marine chapters share a single rulebook called the "space marine codex", and it was just updated a few weeks ago. But that book only goes over generic stuff for all 8 armies, it doesn't go over the chapter specific stuff which is found in supplement books. Currently only Ultramarines and White Scars have their supplement books so they are the only armies from that book with full rules, so we have to wait for the other supplements to be released in order to see all of their rules. Those supplements are supposed to come out 2 at a time for the next few months but we don't know which order, so at the latest it could be 4 months before we see ravenguard rules and at the earliest it could be this month.

I agree it's pretty dumb. It makes sense for most armies though because in the beginning of 8th troops weren't as popular and people were spamming everything but them, for example in my early 8th edition chaos list I had 5 helbrutes and 10 malefic lords lol, it was kind of dumb. But for armies like DW or RW they should have a rule that states "if you bring only RW models in a detachment, bikes are exempt from the rule of 3" or something like that. If you want a rule like that send an email to the GW FAQ team to let them know, they always consider ideas from people which is why we have things like "thousand sons and grey knights are exempt from the smite changes", that was only made because the community asked for it.

Bullgryn have been used in some top lists before, I'll be honest and don't know the strategy behind them since I'm not very familiar with that unit, but I'm assuming its buffs from spells and other imperium units like the Custodes Banner that makes them pretty decent.

So if you run with banner you have a 2++ on a t5, 3w models and they hit hard with 5 s7 -1AP 2dmg attacks.They're just slow. I think I'm going to run them with the ceres armoured assault vehicle and see if I can get them involved in the fight

I think I would play them as a mobile gunline with Gman and intercessors using the new Indomitus Crusader formation. I haven't tested it but in theory in can be really good.

how about tyranids for melee rush armies? my friend spams genestealers and broodlords and my Necrons have a really bad time against them.

Necrons have a really bad time against most armies right now lol. The only reason they are rated so high in my tier list is because of tesseract vaults. Bring 1 or two of those against your Nid friend and you should have a much better time lol.

I felt Necrons are more OP since 7th edition, particularly because of their aura abilities. I have obviously been disillusioned. Whatever the case, I always make sure to bring a Lord and Overlord as they complement each other pretty well and can have some pretty powerful artifact weapons.

Great video , i just found this channel so i'ma sub and go back in time and watch the rest :) seems like this style of playing would be boring to me, i'm not very competitive i guess, i just like to see my orks deployed and doing stuff all painted up and looking cool, in my had i narrate whats happening, i havnt started playing yet actually, but i already decided i'll play my army like orks would fight, not how i'd fight.

I just like providing tactics for people who want to play more competitively, or even if they want to play narratively they can feel more like a General giving good orders to their troops. They have a short(ish) range so shoot them from out of their range or just shoot them lol, they die pretty easily if you brought the right weaponry or enough guns.

Almost Pro Gaming So bring lots and lots of Artillery.

Not necessarily artillery, just guns that out range them and can shoot them on turn 1 if they are a big threat to your army, or units that can move in from outside of the noise marines range and shoot first like flyers or vehicles. Otherwise you have to endure a couple shots and then shoot back with the stuff that has around the same range as them.

@@ShistoRai i have both armies and switched my hellblaster castle to the dark angels one. Azrael gives your army a 4+ invul within range add a banner and these bad boys put out some hurt. The main reason to go dark angels over ultramarines is the stratagem weapon of the dark age. Can we say dmg 3 plasma! Mmmm yes. Essentially i found that with ny list as ultramarines i literally had bugger all strats to use. Switch to dark angels and good to go.

They can be, but personally I'm still not sold on them yet. I'd rather take Rhino's because they can at least help with other things like charging enemy units to stop them from shooting.

They are more of a melee rush army even though they are so slow lol. But technically they can be horde/melee rush or elite/melee rush depending on how you build them, or you could also make them pretty deathbally too - it really just depends on how you build the list and the units you choose.

Yes. Forgeworld is always an option if their units fit into your overall stratagy. In my old Alpha Legion list I used Contemptors and Deredeo's because they got the -1 to hit trait and at the time you could make them fire twice with the fire frenzy stratagem until it was FAQ'd. More often then not though, I think most forgeworld units are overpriced and you can find cheaper units that do what they do to accomplish the same goal. There are some FW units that are optimal (I know there's a tau one that does good, and the artemis pattern helhounds are great) but a lot of the other FW units are overpriced in my opinion.

Yes. Guard can do it pretty easily, same with Drukhari. But for the most part trying to make an army fluffy usually means its not going to be optimal - for example the guard list could make use of allies like blood angels, and the drukhari can use craftworld psykers for support. That doesn't mean the fluffy guard or drukhari lists aren't strong, its just that they could be stronger - and in competitive you want to take every advantage you can get.

Almost Pro Gaming But isn't that what it's all about? Even in competitive scenarios? You do not just compete to win, you compete to prove your tactical superiority over your opponent. If you win using the best netlist you find, that says nothing about your skills in strategy (listmaking) and tactics (actual game), you probably deserve the contempt the your opponent has towards you for enjoying a false sensation of pride. But if you win using, let's say... Grey Knights, your opponent *has to* accept he is tactically inferior, and eat his heart out in silence.

I don’t have the newest codex (will this Saturday). That said I would look at Bjorn as a warlord with a Ven-dread with blizzard shield and great ax as a body guard. Long Fangs in the backfield and troops to get the formation that you want. Round out with a needed second HQ choice (look closely at Rune Priest). Buff/protect your squads with wolf guard leaders with storm shield. These guys are your meat shield to take the wound as you barrel forward.

HI. I love your vids. You allways do good. Tho i have 2 things. Malanthropes as support unit not in your content but Also not easy to fit everything in the vid. 2. I Also play khorne mono deamons (Yup i know not the powerhouse as all other units) but my greather deamons actually do good in my lists. I know they are expensive and not competative in turneys but my warlord with scorn armour really takes np. 2 rounds focus shooting and Even then comes into the cc and kills a unit or 2. Skarbrand allways kills for 1.5 - 2.0 hes points... just to Say something ok about mono Khorne. But keep up you Really Nice vids.

Elite more often then not. But could also make a decent deathball out of them since they have some great characters with Typhus and Daemon Princes and great screening units with the poxwalkers and cultists.
