Thank you so much for this video, you just save me $ 40 dollars. I had all these materials in my garage from my garden this past year. Every dollar saved during the pandemic is a blessing.

Love it! I was looking for a solution that wouldn't require a lot of tool ownership or skill!

I love it! That's super old fashioned composting! Growing up, my dad had 3 of these along the back fence. Just remember to turn it. We had a few "spontaneous combustions" when we didn't do the thing we'd promise to do. lol Thank you for this video!

“See Jane Drill” is amazing at explaining how to build a compost bin. I wish she would have been in high school algebra teacher!

What great solution. I live in the city and don't have a place to drive into soil, so I used zip ties to join the fencing to the desired circumference, bent the unfinished ends towards the center with pliers, and placed a few pieces of brick on the bent ends to hold it more firmly to the pavement while the hummus developed. Voila!

+seejanedrill i made the same thing, but its 3 by 2 width and length and the height is 3. so its 3 by 3 by 2, because the garden is paved off. i heard for thermal compost it has to be 3 by 3 by 3, will mine still work??

This really is all you need. Great video. I've got a lot of composting going on, but I really like this idea especially for raking leaves into and letting them rot down all fall/winter. Much better than my dome composters. I wonder what an estimate cost would be. Maybe

This is pretty good! Now I wonder if one can make those tumbler compost bins using a 50-gal plastic barrel.

Hey, thanks man. You probably could, but I myself am a lazy gardener, just want to toss it and forget about it!

This seems like a great way to avoid the plastic, don't want leaching into valuable compost.

Do you have a video that instructs how to use this? Doesn't compost have to be flipped/turned etc?

not yet, but that is a good idea for a future video. And, yes, it does!

So you have to take it all a part to turn the compost every so often?
@patferguson5724 жыл бұрын
I think it's probably a long-term composter. BUT you could fix one side of wire to the post leaving the other side free. Use tie-wire [or some type of 'clip'?] to attach wire to post in about 4 places. Then just undo, pull back wire, turn compost, and put wire back.
@ceili6 жыл бұрын
How do you empty it?
@seejanedrill6 жыл бұрын
I just remove the wire bin from the ground when I'm ready to "harvest" the compost. Mix it up and scoop it into a wheelbarrow.

Now what? Mine has been full for a year and it's still just coffee, leaves, and banana peels? Am I supposed to tear it apart and rebuild it everytime I want to stir it?

Couldn't I just weave the stake through the wire rather than screwing on ? I won't need a drill or fixings then. Also I don't think it would hurt to use an untreated stake as its not a permanent structure. And I will definitely only be putting garden clippings in, not food scraps or else it will be a mouse metropolis 😆
