Timing control is one of the biggest benefits of EFI! Having the ability to have a specific amount of timing advance in each individual cell means your car will run smoother, use less fuel, and make more power!

I figured out the part that this video completely walked around that has so many confused. There’s an older video called “Individual Configuration Library ICFs” from HolleyPerformance where they’re talking about all the ICFs, selecting, disabling and so on. To save individual spark tables create the mechanical as he shows, then go to File, Export Config, and select the spark ICF box only and name the file for your mechanical advance. Then clear your table and build the vacuum advance table as he shows. When he says to bring up your mechanical advance table again go to Toolbox then Add Individual Config to select the mechanical spark table you built earlier then follow his directions from there on out. If you do it right, you’ll get the same appearing graph he did. Watch the other Holley corporate video I mentioned if what I said didn’t make sense.

Make more sense 👏 It was a little confusing on switching between tables lol

I think holley did a poor job of explaining it and people are over analyzing it. if you follow along he is just building a vacuum advance table for show then adding it to the base. A better way of doing it (after building your base) is to find max map from a high speed Decel. 38 KPA or so Then offset +20, Then WOT TPS usually 94+ kpa on the sniper then select the first row of each and fill column. Ignore his second table and apply as stated above

I get exactly what he’s doing, I just have to figure out how to go from my graph of what’s in it already to the plain white graph where he starts building the new one. I’m the old school turning screwdrivers on a double pumper and twisting the distributor to now doing all of it on a laptop. If anyone can walk me through from approximately 4:15-4:20 in the video to the point where he has a whole new white graph to start building the spark tune it would be greatly appreciated. I’m sure from there I will understand how to do the fuel etc from there. My biggest fear is losing a tune or putting bad info into the computer. I understand all the concepts of what each part is for, I just want to be sure I do it right and it will only take explaining it once for me to get it. I kind of get what the gentleman above is saying, it’s just getting used to where to click to get in the right places.

@@schaefer692002 this will be very difficult over KZbin but the way I did it in the end was I just kept practicing and not using the method above at all although I get a very similar graph. Use Holley’s quick method (3-inputs, doesn’t drive all that great), idle the vehicle, drive your vehicle easily to get cruise and street accel kpa numbers (vacuum reading) all while data logging the event. Use the information in the datalog to adjust your idle zone and high vac cruise zones to what you know or think will work best. You’ll be doing this in blocks on the spark table. Choose your max mechanical advance for WOT and rpm where you want it “all in” and creat another block of values, probably from 80-85 kpa up to the top of the graph, all-in rpm to the max rpm. Then use the methods shown in this video to blend those blocks into one another horizontally and vertically. Go to the 3D graph to smooth the wrinkles manually. Also use these datalogs to build your target AFR table. Very helpful in refining your transition areas like light acceleration. Just make sure you understand proper fuel AFR’s like best lean torque (low load), best rich torque (high load), max power safe AFR, lean cruise AFR, etc. It’s also going to take you memorizing as you drive how the car behaves if you’re familiar with how it behaves in too rich/lean situations. Always err on rich so your timing can be more aggressive. Aggressive timing and lean burn under load are a dangerous combo. Hope this helps even a little bit. I’ve built many more tables than I’ve used and even then used the many datalogs I’ve recorded to refine those spark tables and you will too because the engine’s behavior will change as you tweak the tune, then the values will change. Just takes time, it even gets to be fun instead of intimidating

For those confused by the two tables... What you don't see is the clearing of the table. In fact, notice that his scale is the MAP (kpa) on both. The vacuum advance is just an example of vacuum advance alone. To build the map: 1. follow the mechanical map creation 2. skip the vacuum map and pick back up at ~5:31 "Go back to your mechanical table and highlight the bottom few rows" 3. finish the fill in and you should be all set. Note: I don't understand why they're showing a ridiculous 56 deg advance as a suggestion. I realize your conditions should never put it there but still. That looks dangerous to me so I'm not going to advance 20 across the board as the video shows. YMMV
@nikolovell

I thought the same thing. 56 degrees would detonate most engines to hell

Pretty sure he was just explaining how to do it, how much cruise advance your engine can take could be different, he repeatedly mentions reading the plugs and confirming that the map is safe for your engine. Making a custom table that works for all applications is not the point of this video.

I said the same thing before I bought my Sniper/Hyperspark. I'm still learning, but it's much easier than you would think. The more you mess with it the more familiar you get. I still have a long ways to go and a lot to learn, but this community has tons of great knowledge!

Fantastic, I did this today with timing events that I know my motor is happy with. Total success, the motor runs so much better than it did with the basic timing map. Will have a look at it again once I have some miles on it.

Just create the mechanical table as he did. Then select all colums which are lower than 35 kpa and offset the value ( add 20° advance). Now you select all colums from arround 94 kpa to first offset row (35 kpa) and use the fill column values function. I personally would only offset 15° instead of 20°

Does the Holley Sniper 2 require laptop tuning?
@ABs70nova
@ABs70nova 2 жыл бұрын
"self learning" yup. I sure do have to learn all this myself. What's the point of advertising your product as "self learning" if everyone literally needs to tune these sniper and hypersparks to their own engine... No such thing as plug and play.
@hoonigian6095

well, i bought one and it worked well, it does self learn the fuel map and gives you the option of a base ingnition that works ok, much better than oem for sure. All this settings tunings, as said on the video, are for optimizing and gaining more out of the sniper, but it works pretty well out of the box.

I’m missing a major step here at approximately 4:20 or close to that in the video where he hits something on a drop down and then has a fresh white graph to start with! Obviously you have to have a new blank graph to start, how do you get there?

He's just clearing the same graph for demonstration purposes. Like taking two pieces of paper and laying them over each other when he creates the 'offset +20' for the bottom part of the graph.

I'm kinda late but I'd thought I'd answer. On top left click the fuel injector icon and select target a/f ratio on the left. It shows the basic ones in the menu at the top and a gray out chart. The chart is the default ones based on the numbers, however, if you change type to advance you can change each one individually for your motor size, etc. Just gotta be careful not to go to far or risk engine damage.
