Tools required for building the base
Welder
Welding hood
Gloves
Grinder
Cutoff wheels
Speed square
Tape measure
Marker
Level
Materials
2x-2” weld on henges. I used “barrel henges”
1x- spring loaded latch
2”x2”1/8” angle iron
1”x1”x1/8” angle iron
2”x4” horse panel they vary in height and length so whatever you find available to you. Tractor supply sales the panels also.
Material cut list
2”x2”x1/8” Angle;
4x-23 1/2” cut at 45 deg both sides (base for barrel)
4x-27” cut at 22.5 deg one side (legs)
2x-4’ straight cut (skis)
1”x1”x1/8” Angle;(door)
1x- 22 3/4” cut at 35 deg both sides
1x- 31” cut at 55 deg both sides
2x 13” cut at 35 deg on one side and 55deg on the other. (Careful with orientation) if you build the door with say 1”x1” square tubing it is easier not to get these cuts backwards.
Horse panel
1x- 32 1/2”x32 1/2” (bottom of cage)
4x- 32 1/2” x 12” cut at 22.5 deg (sides) (I would recommend cutting it long. Then holding it up to your legs or door then marking it with a sharpie to guarantee a good fit)

This is exactly the video I was looking for. Gonna build some of these throughout the summer for deer season. Thanks brother!

Thanks for sharing your deer feeder build. I am working on replacing my existing ones. I am done climbing on my tub and ladder. I will be building some like yours. Again thank you for a great video! Have a Great Day!

Really nice man, but gotta use better timers. All season feeders make nice ones that come with “The Timer” those things are reliable, had one for over twenty years and the only reason it stopped working was because a hog knocked over my feeder and demolished the timer

Man I wish I would have found this video sooner. I spent wayyyyyyyy to much money on store bought feeders and their junk. Nothing beats hand made!

Great video. I think I can build one now. Do you put a funnel in the bottom of your barrel? Also, whT gap do you use between the bottom cone and the spinning tray? Thanks.

How did you make a jig for the legs the only problem I’ve had is getting the legs at the same distance from one another. Thanks for the video!

Awesome job and slick idea. What size (2”x2” maybe) and wall thickness of Angle iron do you prefer. Tnx very much

Thanks! It is 1/8” thick angle iron. I don’t find it necessary to use anything heavier for this it is stout

Great video, I showed it to my Ag Mech classes. Do you actually bolt or weld any bracket on the barrel to the frame or does the barrel just sit on there?

You mentioned you have a jig for the feeder legs. I would like to see a photo of the jig you made to hold the feeder legs in place while you weld it.

There is about 100$ in materials not including the timer. They weigh around 70-80 pounds before you add your corn.

Great Video. Just what I was looking for. If I build one with longer legs would that change any angles or cuts ?
@haysfab6087
@haysfab6087 Жыл бұрын
Thanks. So you can keep everything the same if you want longer legs and the only thing that will change is the length of your legs and the length of skis. I would just measure for your ski once you attached the longer legs. The 22.5 degree gives you a wide base and it’s stable. Hope it helps

Do you think it will hold up from a bear. I'm trying to do something different this year because of the bears.
@haysfab6087

I don’t have bears other than the gummy ones so I really don’t know. I was asked to build one for a guy and he recommended putting spikes on it and on top but I opted not to attempt it. So I can’t confirm or deny.
