Combining aquatics and BP incubation and both aspects being symbiotic while also integrating cost effectiveness is absolutely genius. If you legitimately invented this method, you deserve a Nobel prize or something close to it. Im going to start my first pairing of BP’s next fall (Super Pastel Genetic Stripe 0.1 to Butter Spotnose Ultramel 1.0) and im definitely using this method of incubation considering im also an avid aquarist as well. Will this format work for any species of snake. I’ve got colubrids that need it a fair amount cooler than 90 and I’m assuming I can just lower the temps but I’ve never done this and figured I’d play it safe and ask your opinion. Ps I’ve got snake room envy for sure. Your setup is so organized and it makes my heart happy lol…. Edit: sorry my dude; asked and answered. You addressed this but I asked before I finished the video. I like also having a thermostat that the aquarium heater plugs into so that if it starts going crazy and overheating I don't burn my eggs because it will turn them off.

Thank you for sharing. If you have full humidity, i wonder why the substrate is needed in the individual egg box.

You can't sit it flat in a tub. If there's condensation they will be sitting in water. I use pearlite as a precaution, but technically they don't need substrate. Just something to sit them on above the plastic

Since you don’t need the substrate to retain humidity, but instead to keep the eggs from sitting in water, I wonder if you could use something more reusable like a couple of PVC pipe connectors to hold up the light diffuser within the shoe box. Those could then be sterilized and used over and over. 🤔

You could really use whatever you want as long as the eggs are off the bottom.

I'm only expecting 1 clutch so the Styrofoam cooler (was used to ship frozen steaks) I'm planning to use is only big enough for 1 egg box. Do I still need the water to be circulating? Or can I just put in the water heater and be good? The box will be sitting directly over it 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was thinking if you got a big glass door cooler couldnt u put a large container in the bottom with the water and heaters and power head in it and use the same method for heat humidity on the stand up cooler and have more room for egg boxes. Most of the stand up coolers I see built in videos have just an open space in the bottom under the shelves. Just wondering if this .method would work rather than running heat tape in the stand up coolers or even a fridge.

I've thought about that but never tested it. You would probably need to have some amazing air circulation get the moisture all the way around the incubator and at 99%.

Will a typical tiny storage bin work? Or does it need a locking, really tight sealed lid? I'm worried water vapor might get inside the lid of the one I got without a tight locking lid, and might condense on top and drip down

Never. There is no evaporation because the lid of the cooler stays closed. That's why it works perfectly!

Can you use a regular small incubator like you would use for chickens?

I've never used one, but the issue with chicken incubators is that they rotate the eggs. BP eggs need to stay embryo side up.

Is oxygen on the inside an issue? Specifically when the eggs are hatching and the snakes are out and moving around and needing oxygen? Maybe a dumb question but just wondering

Probably not. the cooler retains the heat, a glass aquarium wouldn't

It’s amazing snakes reproduce in the wild without incubators LOL. Temperature is not 90°F all the time in the wild and humidity is not 99% all the time in the wild either. It does not have to be perfect for it to work, it works in the wild with fluctuating temps and humidity day and night.

And do you have the statistics for hatch rate in the wild? That's the point of keeping consistent temperatures and humidity in captivity. To maximize hatch rate. Humans can survive without modern medicine, but are you going to refuse it if needed?

@@SNKELTD Yes, most of them hatch in the wild with no problem. I’m not saying this is wrong, it is actually a very nice way of incubating them inexpensively, but there is no need to be perfect all the time. In the wild temperatures fluctuate day and night, that’s all I’m saying.
