Hi Nick, It was my buddies kit. He bought it from a company in Australia. Unfortunately, they shut down. You can still search in google DIY bass kit.

Nightrider1700 Hey, Nightrider! Actually, I made a mistake and gave incorrect information a while back. I originally thought my buddy order this kit through the same company as I bought my ES-335 kit. The one in this video is from bargainmusician.com. My apologies for the mixup :P

Point of note regarding your visual of measuring the bridge position...you used the E saddle for the 34" scale. You should be using the G saddle, because it has the least amount of forward room to move...so you don't want to run the risk of not being able to intonate it. Also, you installed your machine heads upside-down...

also installed the bridge to far to the treble side the the high E isnt even on the board at the last fret

Neck Its usual to mark the centre line, fit the bridge, then clamp the neck on lightly (with a block of cork or similar to protect the frets) and use a steel or a string to set the neck so the outer strings are the same distance form the edge, then drill the guide holes in the neck. This is also how you put a new neck on an existing instrument. Bridge With a new bridge, adjust one saddle as far forward and one as far back as they will go and a third to the middle, so you know where the middle of your adjustment is - the man in China doesn't care where the middle is. Soldering Solder is not glue. Heat the connector and melt solder onto it, not onto the iron. Its usual to build an instrument with the neck fitted but not installed, this makes soldering, finishing and things like strap buttons way easier.

I disagree with the title, you're not building, you're assembling a kit. Big difference!
@JoeLewis145 жыл бұрын
Hey, Luis. I thought I made it clear enough when I mentioned it as a 'Do-It-Yourself' build. If you type 'Do-It-Yourself Bass Guitar' into Google searches, what comes up is Bass Guitar kits, hence the title. Both 'assemble' and 'build' are synonyms.

Did you installed the tuning machines backwards on purpose?
@JoeLewis148 жыл бұрын
No, it was not intentional at first. My buddy began to install the first one upside down by accident. The anchor screw broke while he was screwing in. Once we noticed the error, it was too late. We only had the six anchor screws that came with the kit. So we had to press forward and make the rest like that. Luckily, it made no difference structurally. Nice catch!

Any theory behind the tuners being upside down?
@JoeLewis147 жыл бұрын
Hey, Eric. When we build this guitar, it came with a set number of hardware screws. Unfortunately, my buddy installed the first machine head upside down, and the screw head broke off. Since it did not effect the intonation, we pressed ahead. We later removed the screws when new hardware arrived, filled the holes with proper wood filler compound, and placed the machine heads in the correct orientation. So basically it was a mistake, and we ran with it. Thanks for checking out the video and asking about it!

Hey Johnny, Thanks, brother! I appreciate you checking out the video as well. My buddy ordered it from Bargain Musician. I'll put the link below of the exact model. His is a bit darker than the one shown in the link because he wood stained it prior to us assembling it. www.bargainmusician.com/inc/sdetail/6s_bass_body_style/94/231 It has been about a year and a half, and he says it still sounds great. Let me know if you decide to build!

@JoeLewis147 жыл бұрын
Hey there again, Jacob! This was my buddies guitar that we built. We had a limited budget, so we stuck with the pots and pickups that were included in the kit. What are some pots that you would have gone with? I'm am a guitarist, while my buddy is the bassist. Do you play bass or standard guitar?
@jamesthe-doctor89816 жыл бұрын
Event Horizon Records Switchcraft is generally considered not only the best company for aftermarket pots, switches, capacitors, etc., but their products are better than most original equipment. Their quality is better than just about anything in place on imported guitars and basses, but also at least as good as any you'll find on made in the USA guitars, and better than many of them. Ask around, and you'll see. 😀

Hey Matt, I appreciate your interest. It's actually an original song titled 'Something In The Distance'. The bass line is recorded by my buddy using the new bass from this video. major mistake right off the bat. if the bridge holes are pre drilled you need to create a centerline and clamp the nek in a position that lines up correctly. then drill and secure the neck.
@JoeLewis145 жыл бұрын
Hey, TheDoug2103! Maybe you are correct. Unfortunately, the instructions did not mention to do this and this was one of my first guitar builds. Luckily, it turned out just fine, but that is something I will keep in mind for the next one. Thanks for watching the video and giving your feedback!
