Great video! If you were building a dormer to be flush with the gable, so that you could put in French doors or a tall window, would one of the cheeks have to be block/brick?

Great video. Instead of adding the steel for the floor, can you sister the joists to cope with the increased span?

We always struggled as the span length and weight from the dwarf wall/Slope

would it not be better to go down a bit more and put steels just above the ceiling of the first floor to create more ceiling height? It seemed a bit claustrophobic. I know it requires some timber cut that carries the ceiling but I am assuming 10-12cm is a good gain.

No need to disrupt the ceilings below when you can already get a really good height inside. We do have to do this when the head height is lower to start with. But this one had good space so no need to.

Genuine query, why no deck and vapour barrier on the warm side side of that insulation???

We use foil tape on the top side of insulation. Foam between the insulation to seal. But more importantly use foiled backed plasterboard on the ceiling and slope.

Amazing vid. Is it true the dormer cheeks need to be a certain distance away from the neighbours boundary to meet fire regs?

Yes or they need to be protected with a fire resistant product. Ie superlux

@@djmooreloftconversionspeci458 thanks. Is slate considered a fire resistant material? I'm in a conservation area so the materials need to match the roof.
