Can you explain how removal of the original lateral ties, then doubling up the joists restores lateral restraint?
@builditwithrob Жыл бұрын
Hello I’m sorry I can’t I don’t fully understand the stresses and loads, I follow the engineers plans and calcs
@Elfin4 Жыл бұрын
@@builditwithrob I will try and explain my concerns - If you remove the horizontal tie beam/member then double up the common rafters but don't reintroduce some bracing to stop the roof spreading the loads are still being transferred down towards the eaves which may start to spread outwards if the rafters are not braced laterally across the width of the roof which was the purpose of the original tie beams. I just don't understand how doubling up the common rafters does anything unless you want to increase the loads by putting heavier tiles on the roof. Perhaps you can get your engineer to comment here or if there are any engineers who can tell us what's going on and how this works from a structural view as I would really like to understand.
