Did you put anything over the drylok after all your coats, I’m in the middle of a build myself for my crested gecko but it’s a rough texture, do you know of anyway I could make it smooth

I used drylock extreme. Drylock original has a gritty texture, but extreme has a smooth texture. You can always try a coat of extreme over what you've done so far

I know I am really late to the party, but always put silicone up against the edge of your foam that will keep water from getting in it and rotting, also for your first couple coats it’s better to buy a cheap one or 2 inch brush and just use that that way you don’t care to squish it into the holes

Great sort of tutorial with the drylok. I know it was your first time and i feel like it came out looking very good. Inspired me to do something like that. I looked around KZbin and other sites and like you, i can't find very much about it either or how best to use it. My question right now is, what does the drylok feel like when it's cured or dry? Is it like cement/rock and strong or is it brittle, kinda soft? I don't live in an area where we have basements around here. It seems like that product is a basement waterproofer? That would be helpful. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. :)

I’m glad you found my experience helpful! I think it turned out good as well! It feels pretty hard, it dries kind of like the texture of dry clay. Because of that it does shrink the foam a little so I’ve since learned adding some silicone around the edge of the foam and glass and letting that dry before applying the dry lol should help the foam from peeling away from the wall!

Drylok is latex based, I believe. I'm in the middle of a build myself. Troy Goldberg's Tropical Garage is an awesome channel for drylok foam burning ld tutorials. He uses this method on his dart frog vivs. Sometimes he doesn't even use a full coat on the foam, and his tanks are phenomenal, like supergood

Cement works as well, but I will definitely be dry locking mine since I already have it. You have to make sure to do at least 3 coats!

Just curious why you use drylock. The foam can't get wet? I used drylock on my foam in my wood enclosures. Now I'm building a crested gecko enclosure in glass and I'm wondering why I should use drylock
@alastormarie95532 жыл бұрын
Drylok can take a lot of moisture over a long time so it will make the background last longer. The expanding foam is porous so eventually deteriorate. Plus you can add tint to it to make the background come to life with different colors.

How long did you let the foam cure before carving/spraying more foam?
@alastormarie95532 жыл бұрын
24-48 hours depending how think the layer is. Usually 24 hours is good :)
