Great table! Does the wood filler help out with keeping food out of the gaps between the boards and keep everything smooth? Also, what is the benefit of having the plywood on the bottom versus the design to your previous table? Would this top work with the leg design of your previous table video? Thank you! We're getting ready to build our own!

+Eric Ludington The wood filler will give you a smooth surface if that is what you like and you could absolutely use the leg design of the previous table. The plywood gives you a nice solid surface to work on when building the table, but is also firms up the table because the surface planks are only 3/4 inches thick. Hope this helps and good luck!

Hey Joe, nice table! With a table where you place the outer edge on, do I have to worry about expansion and contraction of the breadboard ends pushing it away from the table. I'm new to this lol.
@joelydic6 жыл бұрын
We still have this table and we haven't had any issues. This design is fairly bombproof and build to last. With all of the screws and liquid nails it is good to go for years to come. Expansion and contraction shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for checking out the video and good luck with the build!

Do you recommend pocketholes opposed to biscuit joiners?
@joelydic4 жыл бұрын
Both work well, but pocket holes are much easier. Biscuits are probably stronger, but more work. Thanks for checking out the video and good luck!

Hey Joe! I have a question...I've watched a ton of farmhouse table videos & your first table is my favorite. Love the white legs & dark top. I'm conflicted though...I'm noticing that on this 2nd video you seem to have squared up the 2x6's. Is this true? I kind of like the rustic look of the first table where there are grooves in between each board on the top. But now I'm starting to doubt myself...I imagine crumbs & food would get down in there & be hard to clean out. Do you think this is true? Do you prefer the sleek flush look for a table top? It does seem more practical for a family to eat on. And for kids to do art or homework on. Would love to hear your thoughts please. Thanks in advance for your time.

Thanks for checking out the video. You are exactly right about the first video and crumbs do get into the cracks between the boards. Both tables look really nice and it's just a matter of personal preference. I have come to really like the second table with the smooth top. No crumbs in the cracks to deal with:) If your kids will be doing homework and writing on the table then I would definitely go with the smooth top. Hope this helps out and good luck with the build!

You could keep the rustic look of the first table, but still make it easy to clean if you order a glass tabletop.

@@joelydic Thanks for the video! I love how simple you make it seem.. I've seen some pretty complicated tables. If i made the table top like the first one without squaring off the edges and still use sealer inbetwren the grooves would it work? Im asking because i don't have a table saw i only have a miter and we will be using the top as a game table on top of our old pub table frame. Playing dice games would definatly require a smooth top 😊
@joelydic5 жыл бұрын
Yeah that would work well. Just use wood filler in the cracks between the boards and then sand everything smooth prior to applying the poly and you'll be good to go. Good luck with the project!

awesome video. 1 question, with the long hairpin legs, does the table have any wobble to it?
@joelydic8 жыл бұрын
+Al Smith Glad you like the video. It wobbles a bit if you bump into it, but you don't notice it otherwise. Good luck!

Nice table build, where did you purchase the legs from?...
@joelydic8 жыл бұрын
+johnnyb395 Glad you like the table. I bought the legs from Etsy, but I think there are other websites that sell them as well. Good luck!

I'm a grease monkey! But I've always wanted to do carpentry and learn. Your job is amazing bud! How much money did you spend for this project?
@joelydic8 жыл бұрын
+Natanael Romero Glad you like it! I think total it was around $200, but you will be able to use the stain, some screws, and the poly again. Good luck!

One more question. What type of wood did you use?
@rzharovski8 жыл бұрын
What kind of wood did you use for the top?
@joelydic8 жыл бұрын
The wood for the top was simply pine from the local Lowes store. You just need to sand it really well and it turns out great. Good luck!

Are the legs sturdy?

There is a tiny bit of movement to the table, but not much. We still have this table all of these years later and it's still going strong. Thanks for checking out the video and good luck!

+Joe Lydic where can I bye some hairpin legs. I'm from The Netherlands...so, do you have an adress on the internet
@joelydic8 жыл бұрын
+janhoomans I bout these ones from Etsy, but I'm not sure if most sellers on there will ship internationally. I know hairpinlegsforless.com sells them as well so you can maybe check them out. Good luck!

Hey joe! Nice project . I subscribe to you . Hope you do the same. I have a question though why did you put plywood on the bottom of the table?
@joelydic8 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the video and I hope it helped out. The plywood just gives you a nice, strong base to the table and makes it very solid. Thanks for watching and good luck!
