To help anyone else who is modifying one of these vans please read this. The sliding rails simply unbolt as a unit. The rails, the slider part, all of it unbolts. No need to cut or hammer or pry and no need to remove the sliding portion by itself. The nuts for the middle rails are underneath the van. The threaded part sticks down through the floor so the nuts are put on from the underside. Some model years might have slightly different bolt locations but they all bolt in. Folks, except for the body panels which are welded together and frame rails, almost every other part of a car, truck or van is bolted, cliped or screwed together. I watch videos like this and many other involving various aspects of car repair and modification and people make a ton of work for themselves or can't get the vehicle the way they want it because they couldn't figure out how to remove a part or, worse, severely damaged a part when trying to remove it improperly. When in doubt pay the money for a repair manual or simply ask your dealer. It would help to buy the repair manual for your year model of vehicle anyway just to know how things go together and come apart so you know out in the wild if something is or isn't right if you're not very familiar with cars.

Thanks for the info! I was told I would have to pay a whole lot for them to get to the rails from the other side of the floor. I’ll pin your comment so it’ll help other folks with this, hopefully. What year is your Sienna?

Unfortunately some models, including mine (2011 LE) do not allow access to the bolts you need to remove from underneath the car- can access the ones under the spare tire to remove that rail, but cannot remove the one on the middle-left unless you remove the fuel tank! A mechanic quoted me $260 for this job so left one rail in- got the trolley out by removing the end bracket, raising up the carpet, and chiseling away some sealant that was blocking it from sliding off.

Newly Updated Safety Suggestions; I just happened to see your channel, and others similar channels recently, and I think that you, and others sharing their actual reality, and some have expressed some of the up, and down sides to van, RV, or vehicle living. I believe that it is very helpful, and beneficial to others who may be thinking about this type of living without actually thinking through, about the some of the realistic problems that could occur with vehicle or van living etc... People need to know what up sides there are, as well as some of the down sides of vehicle living. I believe this channel, and other channels have been informative to others, including myself. Although, I am NOT living in a vehicle or anything like this. I feel that you , and others KZbinrs sharing this with your viewers will be very helpful. I wish you ALL the Best with your traveling endeavors. I shared this with another traveler as I watched their KZbin channel for the first time, as yours, and I shared with them this information that may be helpful to you as well to others. Therefore, I would also like to suggest a few Safety tips, and items that may help you, or others in your viewing audience. Although, you may have knowledge of this already, I am not sure, so I hope this will be helpful to you, others or someone. *Keep a Extra working cellphone with you or in your vehicle. You can purchase inexpensive phone with a very low monthly price between 25, 35, 45, dollars a month with unlimited data and text, and some have Nationwide coverage Do your research for the best fit for you Carry Several Extra portable phone chargers, and cables. Consider theses items: *Mini portable power charging station. I have also seen outdoor portable solar powered power stations, that can be recharged from sunlight this may be very useful to have, to power your devices. *Invest in a Cellular signal booster for outdoor use, and camping situations to boost or amplify your cell signal and reception. Research to see what you prefer. *Very Inportant: Invest in a SOS distress electronic signal device, this a kind of device can send out a distress signal with your exact location. There are various types of these devices, and including signal that can be used when boating or camping situations. There is also the Satellite communication devices, that can provide SOS emergency signal and GPS, and provide satellite text messaging capabilities anywhere. *Some have emergency Strobe lights SOS signaling with location alerts, and location updates that can be sent to your family, and emergency first responders. Some can be synchronized with your smart watch or phone. You can check online, and on Amazon, research what SOS emergency GPS devices will be a good fit for you. *Mini portable vehicle battery jumper charger *vehicle battery jumper cables *Vehicle Jumper cables *Keep a Fire extinguisher handy Smoke, and Carbon monoxide detectors can be helpful... *Mounted Dashboard camera front and rear possibly. Exterior vehicle cameras Interior vehicle cameras *Flashlights or pluggin spotlights *Portable spotlights, and lanterns Keep a few whistles around with you, and in your vehicle possibly in your vehicle’s center console *A set of long range 2 way radios, walkie talkies, to communicate with others during trips, some have 100 mile radius keep for emergencies. Use your own discretion regarding the use of any weapons. Don’t forget to bring Bear Spray Pepper spray Where is allowed If you own a drone you can use it to survey your area for animals etc. However, Please Be Safe and Beware of your Surroundings. Stay Alert, and Be Safe even when stopping at Rest stops, Truck Stops, and conducting your various tasks. Keep in often contact with your family, friends etc. Although, I just noticed your KZbin channel, and other similar channels. You seem Very Aware of your surroundings and Alert, and you may be aware of many of these suggestions, however, I Don’t know, so I just posted this anyway to help anyone who may benefit from these suggestions. Keep up with the latest Weather Updates, beware and prepare for unexpected Weather events and conditions. Keep your vehicle gas filled Don’t chance your Safety by running your vehicle fuel or gas too close to Empty. Fill it up anyway, it will save you alot of time, and headache later on. Remember to keep up on routine maintenance, check your tires for wear, keep up with your fluids for your vehicle, like oil levels, washer fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze. Remember Because you are on the road riding for sometimes very long distances, and long periods of time, I would suggest investing in 2 sets of tires, and a spare, the extra set to rotate. Check the mileage ratings on your tires they all very. Conduct visual inspections of your tires often, check for damage, wearing, air pressure, etc Keep a pressure gauge to check your tires pressure and a tire pump. Keep towing insurance to Be Safe if you ever need it. It Doesn’t cost much try to get National coverage if available, or where you will be traveling. Keep Extra financing, and savings for any unexpected issues, vehicle repairs, and overnight stays, in a emergency or if you need to rest indoors. Keep Enjoying Yourself, Keep Enjoying the outdoors, and Nature Just..Please continue to Be Positive, Safe, and Alert.. Wishing Success, Well-being and Happiness to You All. God Bless You, and everyone Traveling, or living in their vehicles, Vans, RVs, etc. Please Be Safe... Peace and Wellbeing... Great job!.......FYI for ya.......the seat rails do come out but it's a major pain in the ass to remove them. You have to remove the carpet, white insulation and all the trim pieces surrounding the seat rails. Now you can see the actual rails......the outer 2 are bolted in.....but here's where it gets tricky, Toyota uses these bolts with no hex heads on them....just a big flange, the nuts go on from the bottom of the van and welded in place. So, there are 10 of these buggers, 5 on each rail you have to grind off with a 4 1/2 in. grinder with a 1/4 in thick grinding wheel. It's a messy job with all the steel grinding dust.....you will also need a shop vac to vacuum up all the fillings. It's worth the time because you will gain 2 or so inches in living space.

I'm about to do a conversion with my Sienna (when I get one). What year model is your Sienna? Does your Sienna have "All Wheel Drive"? The reason I'm asking is, in some vans that have the fold-under-seats, it eliminates the AWD. I need a van with AWD. The fold-under area takes up the space that is used to install AWD. I also need another measurement that wasn't included in this video (if you would be so kind to). On the passenger side of your van... what is the length from the back end of the sliding side-door to the end of the trunk. I'm wondering if a small bed cot would fit. My cot is 75" long. BTW, I love your set up and thank you for making this video!!!! It's going to be very helpful to me when I start my project!!! I plan on doing the same thing when I find the right van.

on my 2021 xle the air bags are part of the second row seats so if you try to take them out you end up with serious sensor issues. There are plugs to snap into the coupling links for them so that you don't have this issue but you have to leave the rails in. I really wish toyota would figure this design flaw out. the second row should be either stowable and or removable to create a flat floor like the caravans. I loved my caravan for this feature, but I also love the hybrid. always a trade off eh?

My 2017 AWD sienna had 2nd row seats that slid way back or just popped out easily. with no airbag issues. And the grooves for them were virtually flush with the floor. I think it's a genius design.

I measured, designed, and marked off all the dimensions of the build, researched what method would be best for this build, came up with the whole process, went to buy everything after making sure I knew exactly what to get, worked and saved up to afford everything, and reached out to everyone that helped. Not everyone that builds out a van has had the opportunity to learn how to build stuff, and I don’t think that makes a person lesser than, as you’re implying 🌻

Brad, Can you tell me the measurements of the deep area, under the back (3rd row) seats, where the seats fold into the floor. I need the width (from side to side of the car), the front to back length, and the depth of that compartment. I can't find that measurement anywhere on the internet. I'm looking to buy either a 2006, 2012 or 2013.

Maddie how did you get the rails removed? My Sienna is a 2016 XLE. I haven’t looked underneath yet to see if I can just remove the bolts or if the gas tank will need to be removed. If I can’t, then I’ll just have to raise the floor little. It matter too much because I’m just under five feet. I also wanted to ask about the width of your bed and where you got your mattress. Sorry for such a long comment.

No need to apologize! I thought I showed us getting the rails removed in this video? One "cleat" on the rail slid off, the other had to be cut off with a sawsall. It might be in this video, which is the more personal, less step-by-step vlog when when were making my floor. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZKxhXmGfdWfedUsi=1G4ZFEIzjmZlh61S My mattress is from Sinus, a foam "cot-sized" mattress, 30 inches wide, six feet long. I think I ordered the 4 inch tall version but it's more like 6.

Thanks so much for replying. I keep watching your floor build over and over as with many of your videos. I love your van set up and want to do mine very similar to yours. I’ve liked it the best of many different ones I’ve seen. I thoroughly enjoyed your AT adventure because I’m from New England. We lived in Patten Maine and Mt Katahdin was the prettiest view from our front porch. The sunsets were amazing. My older sister climbed Katahdin as a teenager and walked Knife’s Edge. One more ? You have a lot of followers. Do you make much money from KZbin?

Great video. Can you get from the driver's seat to the back without going outside? I'm looking at buying a new Sienna and I'm an old lady now haha, and I'm wondering how I'll be able to get to and from the driver's seat and the back without having to go outside, which I don't want to do if there's a bear or boogeyman outside. I'd love to see a video of how you deal with that.

Yep! I just stand up in the drivers seat facing the back, step with both feet onto the seat, and then step right over the console onto the wood floor. I’ll write that down to show that in my update van tour, which should be out in July if I stop procrastinating!

Hey, I just got my mini van a few changes such as like, I took off the middleback seats of my Toyota sienna and put some stuff around. Today I took my van for inspection and I got "repair sticker". The guy told me I must reinstall the backseat to check the seatbelt. I have to go back there to get inspection pass sticker. I am frustrated because I see many vans adapted like your a lot. It seams no big deal the modification. But I got the "repair sticker" and I have to put the seat back to get the pass inspection. How do you do with this problem? Do you have this problem every year, reinstalling everything back to get the inspection pass? I will appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

Oh no! Sorry you’re having such a hard time, sounds like a real pain in the ass. I don’t really know what you’re taking about though, I’ve never taking my van for inspection or gotten any stickers for it. I live in Kentucky, so that’s probably why. Do you live in California and this has to do with smog checks? Or maybe you don’t live in the US and you have stricter vehicle safety laws there? In any case, sorry I can’t help more! Good luck with that whole process!

@@SelfLove65 that sucks! I'm also from MA, so I feel your bureaucratic pain! I've never heard of anyone having this problem. My suggestion would be to goto the RMV with this question. Perhaps if they modify the number of passengers on your registration this wouldn't be an issue? You're not the first person from here to make these massive renovations to their van, so there's got to be a solution. If your local RMV is stereotypical, may I recommend the North Adams office? Waiting times rarely go more than 15 minutes and they are usually friendly, helpful, and respectful when approached with similar attitude. (of course, everyone has their bad days, from time to time) Seriously, hope you can solve this simply. I'm just realizing that you'll have had to figure something out by now to pass inspection, so I hope you will update.

Why did u use 2 levels of plywood?
@BeerinBeautifulPlaces
@BeerinBeautifulPlaces 5 ай бұрын
Not sure what you mean. It was one level of plywood on legs to support it since the floor wasn’t flat because of the second row seat’s rails that were left behind. If you’re wondering why I needed two sheets of plywood, they laid side-by-side to cover the whole floor
