Believe it or not, I stumbled on your video for apple pie many, many months ago. Even from that video, I had an inkling you were an engineer. I've spent many hours checking out your videos and site. Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing your knowledge, time, and experience. As I've said before, you come up with the coolest stuff.

+SW990 Thank you! My next project is a micro soap bubble blowing machine. I usually work on giant soap bubbles but recently got the urge to experiment with the other end of the spectrum. One problem I've already run into is that when they get too small, they look like fog and can be inhaled. Also, at that size they don't show any color, they just look white.

hello I just wanted to let you know my daughter is in 5th grade we watched your video for her science project she won third place and wanted to thank you so thanks

+friscoHub415 That's great! I regularly help my grandchildren with their science projects. I'm happy to read I was of some help to your daughter. If she needs a science project next year, you might consider having her browse my website at: waynesthisandthat.com/. It's completely G-rated and I don't sell or advertise anything. In the "Hobbies" and "Science" sections there are many possible projects for her to choose from. You may find a few you enjoy yourself! The nice thing about the website is that if she needs pictures, she can copy and print this from the web pages. Thanks for the great comment. You made my day!

Thanks for your interesting video. 2:21 With respect, I don't quiet understand your point about the direction of current flow. Although it is true that the direction of electron flow is opposed to the current flow, it appears as if each proton were moving forwards for each electron moving backwards.
@wayneschmidt4908 ай бұрын
In wires, protons don't move. They are locked in the nucleus of the atoms, which are in turn bound in place in the metal matrix. Only elections move. This gets confusing in liquids because positive ions can move, but in metals it's only electrons. Thanks for writing!

Also sind beide Drehrichtungen möglich.

what is the thickness of the copper wire
@wayneschmidt4908 жыл бұрын
+ALISON LO I used 18-gauge, 1 mm in diameter. 16 gauge would be better for the shapes with large loops because it's thicker and stiffer.
+Wayne Schmidt Did you use the 1.0 mm copper wire or wider?
@wayneschmidt4908 жыл бұрын
+DG CU-T I use 18-gauge soft copper wire from Amazon (www.amazon.com/School-Specialty-Gauge-Copper-Length/dp/B00FGEGWES/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1462291710&sr=8-4&keywords=18-gauge+bare+copper+wire) which is 1 mm in diameter. Some of the larger loops would have worked better with 16-gauge because the 18 got a little floppy. Once the RPMs built up it tended to bend. Thanks for the comment!

Very in-depth and some very clever designs. I had never thought of trying the rolling/railgun with different sized magnets. You might find the last demo (1:10) in this video interesting. kzbin.info/www/bejne/boK6c2t_m7Oif9U I strike a DC arc between 2 concentric rings in a magnetic field. This drives the arc in a circle like a Magnetoplasmadynamic pinwheel.
@wayneschmidt4909 жыл бұрын
+Nick Moore Thank you! And thank you also for the link to that great video. The circling arc in the rings at the end reminded me of the Jacob's Ladder video I made last year, though yours is a much better demonstration of the Lorentz force. To anyone reading these comments, I highly recommend viewing it!
@NickMoore9 жыл бұрын
When I first tested the idea I had wanted a Jacob's Ladder that didn't use the heat of the arc to move so I experimented with magnets. The thought was to eventually make a Jacob's roller coaster but keeping the rails exactly the same distance apart and having a strong uniform magnetic field turned out to be more fiddly than expected. Glad you liked it!

+Nick Moore I checked out your channel. You have a lot of great videos. I look forward to checking them out. I get the impression from some of them that you are in Australia. Is that correct? I'm in southern California, in the high desert area 60 miles north of Los Angeles.

An assignment for school? That would depend on the class and level. My recommendation would be to ask your professor if he or she would accept it as an assignment subject and what they would expect to see in the write-up.
