I bought mine new in 1997. Today, she has 408,000 miles and climbing. Every year in autumn, since the first winter, I would scrape, prime, and paint the frame, even before I found out about the issues with the TJs have with frames. It should be a recall. Every spring, I would sand and paint. We survived and conquered death wobble / death rattle together from 2017 to 2018. All upgrades, repairs, and maintenance have been done by me. Nobody has ever touched her with a wrench, save me. The many years have been wonderful. However, this year, during the yearly autumn frame preparation for winter, I found a rust hole big enough to put a spoon through it. Last year, I did not prepare the frame for winter but did not drive my beloved at all through winter. I had surgery and could not drive for almost a year. I did not think the ravenous rust disease would start devouring my beloved. I will be honest, when I got under there and my finger pushed through the hideous brown spot, I paused and saw all my wheeling adventures, all my incidents, all my long beautiful trips, all my late night outings, the day I started my life with her so many years ago, our first trip home, and I cried for awhile. I am tearing up right now thinking about it. I imagine this is how it feels when you find out a dear friend has cancer. We went out for a long winter ride and enjoyed some snow covered fields tonight. She was wonderful. But I know what is happening. Today, I stuck a vacuum cleaner in the rust hole. I put a filter in line of the vacuum hose. After vacuuming the inside of the hole until things got quiet from no more debris coming out, I opened the homemade filter. It was horrible. Many thick rust chips were inside the filter. The outside of the frame looks pristine. But obviously, there are hideous things going on inside. She is suffering greatly but hides it well. Replacement Jeep frames are very expensive, even if I install them myself. Right now, comfort and quality time together are the focus. I am saving for the very expensive frame. The shipping is very expensive as well. 2020 may be the twilight year for my beautiful Windi, my beloved TJ. The end may be very near. However, the next payday, I am going to buy new LED headlights, wash and wax her, give her a tank of fuel, change the oil to the best, and get her the rear dented bumper exchanged for a new one. She may be dying. But she is alive now. I am going to miss her horribly. I will likely keep the remains at the time the frame breaks resting on my property. I can not part with her after all these years. Frame - $£3000 Shipping £1000

@indridcold8433

@@Ejscars 434.000 miles are on the odometer now, and climbing. I have resorted to filling the frame with automatic transmission fluid, every autumn. I fill it until it barely starts dripping. This will slow the oxydation tremendously. But I know the damage is still there. What really hurt my beloved was on the 8th of October of 2022. Returning to my rebuilt house for the first time after a fire destroyed it in January, my return home was a struggle. Every light on the instrument panel turned on and the indicator needles went flat. But the engine ran well. I continued on my 160 kilometer trip home. Upon reaching my driveway, I tried to turn off my dear Windi. The engine kept running and smoke started coming from under the barrel. I opened the bonnet and fire erupted. I took the emergency fire axe and cut the Burning wiring harness to the fuse box under the bonnet. The engine went off but the fire kept going. I was moving back into my home so I had five fire extinguishers in my beloved. I was not going to move back into my house without a fire extinguisher in each room. I ended up emptying two full extinguishers under the bonnet. She laid there so silent, so dark after the fire. The thought of laying her to rest so her parts could go to save other old Jeeps ran through my head. But we have been through so much together. She has been there when no person has been. Mid October I started the extensive repairs. The money for the frame went to get fenders a bonnet, complete wiring from front to back, an instrument panel, two seats, and all front facing lights, radiator, ignition rail, brake lines, radiator hoses, battery, many sensors, throttle body, and more. She only awoke from her catatonic state just three weeks ago. She lives once more and has been renamed, "Stargazer," because of her second life. It is great she travels with me, once again. However, in the back of my mind is always the small hole on the frame. But the miles keep climbing and our long journey together is not over yet. After all, she is so much more than just transportation to me now. She is my dear friend.

I had two Stone White TJs in a row. A 2001SE Auto that I miss desperately. There are SO many good memories from it! I slapped on a set of the then new Interco Trxxus on a set of black steelies. Loved the set up. The second one I bought new in 03 and upgraded full doors, 2.4 l , 4spd! Auto, and AC ! It was a great road Jeep but the driveline while more drive able and powerful it didnt instill the confidence of the the venerable 2.5, and solid 3spd auto. Shrug. I’d take either one back! I was forced to trade tge 03 in on a new Aveo in 05 because if medical bills 😢. I received 12,500 on a 2 yo TJ with 21k in 05! 🥲they started climbing in value after that and I’ve never been able to afford one again! Thanks for the memories and sorry about the novel here. 😅

i have a solution to noisy and none insulated soft top on my 2005 TJ. I have the sun screen top for when i have the top down, so when the top is up i put pillows between the screen and the soft top. This fills the void preventing flopping of the top and also gives it like 3 inches of insulation from the pillow fluff. I have a couple of throw pillows and a Batman body pillow i use! It is super quiet and gets completly warm in winter and if the top is up, the A/C get it very cold. Simple trick!

Love the Jeep! I'm going almost the same route as this with my FJ Cruiser. I'm going to put S/T Maxx on it and a custom shelf at the back as well! The shelf will make the roomy space at the back be more efficient in carrying tools, camping gear, and bags. I wanted to have Bilstein shocks installed as well. I'm planning on putting 6112 on the front and 5160 at the back. I'm sure it'll look pretty close to a stock FJ but will perform great on trails when going camping just like your Generic Jeep. (And hey! I also have a Viair pump! I guess I chose well. LOL!)

The reason why your rear shocks were not the right size is because of the shock mount on the axle. Dynatrac moves the mounts a little higher to protect them and this is why your shocks will bottom out before the bump stops contact. I've been there. Wasn't fun sorting it out

I got a used VIAIR pump on eBay once with a busted connected and some messed up wiring, which I rebuilt, and omg, that thing was a monster. It'd pump up my tires almost as fast as a gas station pump would.

It still kinda blows my mind that when you have access to everything you do (the F-bomb, Superbee, the various tetanus-mobiles of the roadkill fleet) that you have a sane daily driver.

That looks like a Rock Hard TJ sport cage. Those collars they use look exactly like the ones found in my JK cage. I love your Jeep I am planning on upgrading my JK for similar purposes. Already been through the Rubicon at this point I want to make it a bulletproof moderate wheeling rig.

Hey David, just so you know ,those pin's on the front will only pull about 500 lbs before they break and fly everywhere. The sheer strength is more if the recever is used. D- ring's don't cost very much and you might save someone's life.

Pretty sure that 4.0 straight 6 performs very close to the new V6 in the JL's. Nice to see one with Dynatrack axle housings !

What i find interesting is you have an 02 but you have the single windshield squirter found in the 03 and newer. I have an 02 and i have the same single squirter as well. I only learned this when i bought my louvered hood vent and it wouldn't work.
